Advice on '93 rx-7 purchase...

OK, I could use some advice on convincing the War Department (i.e. wife) on why we should purchase her fathers '93 RX-7 with 23,000 miles, for $12,500. Let's face it, it isn't very practical for a family of four (we both agree on that). Purchasing the rx-7 would increase our current consumer credit debt, but we could afford it. Just trying to come up with some more ideas... Any thoughts?

Thanks!

RM

Well it has been a while since either one of us has driven/riden in it... It is in Seattle, we are in TN, and her father is rather protective of it... it is the Montego Blue which of course has the paint/primer chip problem... other than that it is in mint condition...

Either way, even if the paint is bad 12.5K for that car is a hell of a good deal.

Can't use the watch the kids, or make diners... I already do that... Right now I am a stay at home dad, so all I get to do is watch the kids and make diners... As well as clean, laundry, etc...

Keep the thoughts flowing guys (and gals)... I like them so far!

Boy cant wait till I have to deal with that stuff... Having to go through the wife before I do something does not sound all that great. Until then, I will enjoy my single life and do whatever I want!!!

Just tell her about how all your friends, meaning the numerous people on the forum have them and that you would be the odd ball of the group if you didnt have it.. Then just say.. "why wont you let me live!!!"

Good luck

Tell her that it's like getting the car on SALE!!! That it's a great BARGAIN.

Women can't seem to resist those two words.

The porblem is not color specific, rather it's a problem with early models - I believe most if not all 93s. My Silverstone has the same primer.

Nah, sounds like you should not get it. Instead, PM me your step-Dad's number....

midlife crisis maybe? tell her you want a new toy, and its either that or a bike (inster rediclously overpowerd bike that you would end up dying on here). Maybe that will help?

Or, do you have a son? nothing like some good quality father-son time workin on the 7

For $12.5k you could probably turn around and sell it for a profit. With 23k original miles it is most likely mint, unless it was a racecar. If the car is a "typical" 23k mile car, then you could sell it for at least $18k here in california.

Dude....marriage isn't that great.

J/K...but I got an idea.

Ask her father to let you borrow it for ONE night on the town. Take her to a nice restaurant with valet, and then to maybe a casino with a valet, or a movie with a valet....

The kind where you have to pull up and get treated right....

Make sure to arrange it on a busy night with plenty of people(make sure the car's clean too).

When she steps outta that car, and sees everyone gawking...dude...she might be convinced Johnny on the spot.

As soon as the RX-7 pulled into the parking lot for me to look at it, my wife was like "FORGET THE SUPRA..GET THE RX-7!!!"

G'luck...

You could sell it here in DC for $23K and make $11K profit on it.

The car will only go up in value with those kind of miles.

Tell her its a collectable.

Go go and look at all the muscle cars are going for, these cars will only go up in value.

do what I did...show her that the average price for a car like that is $18-26k..I found a silver one in canada for $28k!!! tell her you are buying it as an invesment and that you plan to sell it for a quick profit. "They really like that part" then, list it in ebay for $26k. the chances that it will sell are small so you can chalk it up to the wrong time of the year and list it in autotrader. Just keep it in there to keep her off of your back--I have to show mine the listing from time to time lol. if it does sell, you made a great profit, enough to justify the purchase of another one and still have money in the bank. Eventually she'll like having it around and wont hassle you so much. It worked for me on 2 different cars.

Keynote -- That is sneaky and devious.... I like it... I think I may try that one, as well as the other suggestions, though I think that the "Thor - ruler of all he surveys" may not work too well for me at the moment... LOL

Do you work hard?

Just go get it and if your bride asks why? Tell her you work very hard for your income and deserve a little enjoyment.

That's what my wife said 5 yrs ago when I told her I was buying a 93 VR RX-7.

All I can say.. If you can afford it, and aren't gonna have to put a damper on spending for that trivial stuff like kids school and clothes, go for it.
