Add coolant light = toasted motor?!?!
Got into my 93 FD this evening to go for a spin (bone stock 83k), started up fine but as I was pulling out of the garage the coolant light and buzzer went off. Shut it down immediately and nearly crapped my pants. Inspected the bay and garage floor for any obvious spills and saw nothing. No visible cracks in the AST etc...Checked the coolant level and it was at/above the "F" line. Got in the car and it started again fine, but was idling at 2.5k or so and seemed to be making a faint grinding-ish sound coming from the front of the car. Shut it down once again, pushed it back into the garage, and here I sit FD-less, clueless, anxious, and maybe in need of a new motor
. Any ideas/suggestions? Motor has 83k on stock turbos and engine, NO MODS...
Thanks.

doesn't sound like your motor's blown. That's some high idle though. Don't look at the coolant tank to see if it's on full or not. Open up the filler neck and add some water. That should stop the buzzer from buzzing. If it doesn't, then the buzzer's disconnected.
Need more information to help you out though...
...good luck!!!

this happened to me before (coolant buzzer upon startup)...it disappeared...i attribute it to air pockets....
the grindish sound you hear may not be related...
its possible that it could be your air pump or acv
dont panic....do a compression test to determine...
coolant light goes off if coolant isn't touching the sensor. did your temp go up to the H? - thats usually what it takes(before you cause engine damage). you probably are just low on coolant, and/or were on a hill or something goofy like that. i wouldn;t worry about it.
Last summer I was out doing high speed runs against a WS-6, pulled off the highway, drove up a small mountain to a lookout, got out of the car and when i came back, i started the car, and within about 10 seconds, the temp needle started rising to "H" and the coolant light went off. shut it down, looked under the car, and had a big puddle of anti freeze under it. long story short, lower radiator hose had busted, probably during the runs, and had probably been leaking all the way till i stopped. anyway, towed the car back home, put a new hose on and no worries.
as amp says. open the filler neck , fill with water/antifreeze, burp the system, and you'll be set.
