Actuator Rattle... (with pics)
Actuator Rattle... (with pics)
Hi all,
I've read this as I was getting a weird rattle at low RPM when accelerating, now that the turbos are off the car I think I've located the cause:

If I operate it by hand it rattles like a ****, is there anyway to tighten him up or am I in the wrong area/does everyone elses RX do this?
Thanks
Dave

From memory the actuator was on pretty tight but I could move it slightly and the rattle may have been there.
Just looking for an opinion really if its the gate or the actuator
Thanks!

You tighten it by removing the actuator arm from the hinge (below) and adjusting the length of the arm so that it has a little bit of pretension (1-3mm, or half the width of the pin).

Thanks Dave,
I'm guessing that when the gate does open it'll be so quick that I won't hear the rattle?
My real reason for this thread was to ask if its the gate that causes the rattle and if it needs to repaired or if tightening the actuator will sort it, I'm guessing you've just answered it
Thanks!

This gate is usually not open below 4500rpm, and never open below 3000rpm, so that may be of use in diagnosing it. You won't be able to assess the pretension until the turbos are back in place.
