99' twins vs stock twins

sure it been brought up before, but my search came up empty. if I were to switch out the stock twins for the 99 jspec twins, besides a quicker spool up is there any type of hp gain? thank you in advance.

The 99' FD's were rated at 285hp at the "crank". Not sure how much of that was due to the new turbos. I THINK the only other modified engine part was the Y pipe.

280ps (=276hp). Y-pipe, better airbox, better airflow in general, thinner dp (= more flow), better cat-back, better turbos, _more boost_

(Although they run more than 280ps stock (despite what mazda say))

that said - you'd be mad to swap out the standard twins if there was nothing wrong with them.

it will spool up quicker but from a cost standpoint it would be cheaper to just save up for engine management and tuning as that will give you the biggest gains.... i think there might be a difference ultimately in power but it is not really a huge difference maybe not even a real noticeable difference... then again this is from the years of reading these type of threads and no real world testing on my part (i dont even own an fd) hope that helps and do search as it does get very technical in some discussions

...and there are multiple threads on the subject - try revising your search with terms such as '280ps', '280hp', or 'efini twins' (incorrect terminology - but often used)

No significant gain at the same boost level.

Rynberg is right. I went ahead and replaced my worn twins with the 99 spec while I did an engine rebuild. I wasn't looking for more power... just better reliability.

I rebuilt the engine at the same time and an older engine always has a bit more power (broken in better) but I have not notice any perceptible power gain at the same boost levels.

Just upgrade your stock twins to BNR Stage 3's. It will be less expensive and you will have much room to play for power.

Sure you have

I just took a look at the rest of your lame posts most of which are in the FAQs or could have easily been found by searching. What's going to be great is when you need some real help/info and people like me won't bother trying to help a lazy kid that doesn't know how to help himself.

I did notice a slight improvement in response and yes at 10 psi no real noticable improvement, but at 14 psi I'm about to find out in a month (or two).

I thought it wasn't advised to crank up the boost that high on the 99s. I thought the consensous was 12psi max on those things. Please correct if I have a misconception.
