99 spec twins installed, I'm sooo happy
well after a weekend of cut knuckles, bitching and yelling and a bit of smoke and crap in the eyes they are finally in.
I was lucky enough to get a set of 99spec twins in extremely good condition at an extremely good price. I did the full non-seq conversion, welded pre-control gate etc... and ported the wastegate as well.
I took her out for a few hard runs just before.
I am seeing boost kick in at around 2500-2800 rpm and it rises absolulty smoothly and pulls real hard right through to 10 psi ( I hit 12-14psi a few times) but I'm really impressed how quickly the boost rises from 1st through to 2nd from a standing start.
I also installed an aftermarket FPR as well and replaced all the gaskets in the LIM , Exhaust manifold.
Its a far cry from my old twins which had a destroyed primamry exhaust turbine, f**ked oil seal and 175 untouched kms on them !
very happy FD owned right here !!!

I have a stock down pipe but unlike the ones you have in the US it's catless.
My mid pipe has no cat and its a staight through exhaust to the muffler

I picked them up from a private seller who thought they were series 7 twins with only 30k on them for $30!! yes $30 nz, so thats $19 dollars US.
he was given them by a friend amongst a heap of series 4 parts he was using to bulid a drag car and decided to have a clean out and put them on a local trade-site with the title " S7 TURBS " on a 3 day auction with a $1 starting bid. Me and only one other guy had a bit of a bid war and I won ( to my shock) for $30.
He listed his number and I rang him and it was all legit.
I paid for the courier costs ( which cost me nothing as I'm a distribution manager ) and when they turned up I went to the local Turbo-Tech to check them out and he said they were in very good condition. But as with most non-rotary mechanics or techs even he didnt know what series they were so I just took the sellers word for it.
It wasnt until a few days ago I was doinf sum research into stock twins that I saw all the comments about the black piece of plastic/rubber inside the housing that I clicked that mine had those.
So I posted a pic along with the number code stamped on the side and sure enough, they were 99spec.

excellent question, unfortunatly I didnt know they were 99 spec twins until after I had done the full non-seq setup, otherwise I probably would've sold them and got myself a cheap set of low kms S6-7 twins.
