CA 99 Spec front bumper? " Tabs in the Mouth"

I am wondering what the tabs are for on the 99 Spec bumper. It looks like you can mount something there in the mouth. On the top and bottom there is tabs, but on all the pictures I've seen there is nothing there. It's almost like there should be a sceen there!

yep I believe that's undertray. the 99 spec fog lights are near the oil coolers. don't cut them off, you'll need them for undertray which will improve aerodynamic

If you purchased the 99spec underbelly cover, it has those tabs to match with IIRC.

Most use the 93-96 one and pull the guide that was on there off.

It's really minor.

I purchased the 99spec one and don't see it adding much in regards to structural stability.

I am waiting for corksport to get the 99 spec undertray back in stock. You guy's sure cause the pan would have to drop under the condensor.

The '99 spec inner bumper reinforment comes with a hoop structure that these "tabs" mount to. it firms up the mouth opening.

here is a link to an old post so you can see the difference between the two undertrays...

I'll have to look at mine to see where those tabs goto....I thought it was the undertray but now I think it from the support bar...which if you have the 99spec one its present. Most just cut their 93-95 ones.

Not much difference. either can be made to fit either car. just a couple of holes need adjusting. one of the undertrays, I now forget which one has an extra plastic filler piece rivited on that fits from bottom of Rad back other just has foam to fit to bottom of rad.

I should rad my own posts, going to the link above I stated:

I put a '99 under tray and '99 lip on a 93-95 bumper, the tray is interchangeable and bolts right up, which is amazing considering the amount of drilling and cutting I had to due for the lip?? The shape out on front wings is a little different, but then that is to fit '99 brake ducts which I like better besides fitting up to lip. The inner radiator "ramp" on 93-95 undertray can be removed, it is suppose to provide a smooth transition from the nose to
the radiator. but if you open up the nose with '99 bumper or shark mod on stock nose, it gets in the way of airflow. My cost was just under $100 from Mazda Motorsports, needed to replace my original one anyway's. Do not leave the tray off. It is the single most important piece to force air through the radiator not under the car, It protects radiator, hoses, oil line and fan belts from stones and other road debris, it is a major aero feature not just drag reduction but stability.

Now as to the tabs it all has to do with the inner bumber reinforcement, not the undertray.

i just did this exact thing on my car.

The "tabs" in the mouth are for a support bar if you get the actual 99 spec front rebar. Mine are unused as i modified the old rebar to work with the 99 spec front lip.

As for the difference in the undertrays, it is very minor. The only differnce that i could notice is that the 99 spec one does not have the big raised middle piece in the center of the undertray. I heard that you could cut the "raised" piece out and use it, but i never did that. I just bought the right undertray.

edit: julian beat me too it
