99 front end got me a ticket
I was leaving Pluckers last night and got pulled over b/c of my 99 spec front end. I got a ticket for not having side amber markers. Has anybody else had this problem and how do I resolve it? The specific regulation that I violated was TRC 547.3215 I have had this front end for at least 10 years and never had a problem.

I was getting ready to pull out of the parking lot when I saw a cop coming down the street. I waited for him to drive past before I pulled out. I then pulled out behind him and preceded to drive down the street. Two blocks later he pulled over into a autozone parking lot and waited for me to drive past him. He then pulled me over and told me the reason was that I did not have amber side reflex reflectors Code: TRC 547.3215. He then gave me a sobriety test b/c I had one beer at pluckers after work. I passed and then he gave me a ticket for no side reflex reflectors. Has anybody else had this problem? Can I fight the ticket ? I have until the 27th of this month to fix it.

I know this sounds silly but you should put your original bumper back on or make previsions for side markers. It is the law and you should follow it or keep paying tickets. I know if you were ever in an accident and it wasn't your fault, the first thing the insurance company is going to say is "he/she didn't have side turn signals" and then you are going to be more upset!
TX State Law:
Sec. 547.324. TURN SIGNAL LAMPS REQUIRED. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, or pole trailer shall be equipped with electric turn signal lamps that indicate the operator's intent to turn by displaying flashing lights to the front and rear of a vehicle or combination of vehicles and on that side of the vehicle or combination toward which the turn is to be made.
TX State Law:
Sec. 547.324. TURN SIGNAL LAMPS REQUIRED. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, or pole trailer shall be equipped with electric turn signal lamps that indicate the operator's intent to turn by displaying flashing lights to the front and rear of a vehicle or combination of vehicles and on that side of the vehicle or combination toward which the turn is to be made.

it does sound silly, nobody uses their turn signals anymore anyway,to busy texting, smoking, putting on lipstick etc., an accident isnt going to be faulted because of wrong color lenses, thats just ridiculous,if you have the clear lenses and have installed the amber colored bulb then the cop is just being an *******,plain and simple,i would think its a fixit ticket anyways, just call courthouse and ask if you can show proof you rectiied the problem, shurely you wont have to change bumpers.. my bad,i thought you were pulled over for the clear lenses, cop must have been looking real hard to spot that,i would modify the bumper or use some other sort of modification before i went thru expense of replacing bumper

If it was the only time in 10 years just fight it, get it reduced and continue on with your life. I'd gladly pay that fine once every 10 years instead of putting those ugly things on my bumper.

Are you joking? Dude modify the fender man! Be JDM. The side markers grew on me. I love them on my car now. Plus, as a safety issue I think they are pretty important. Some people are so oblivious they can't see your turn signal unless it is blinking right in their face.

^ IMHO it would depend if the bumper is authentic or not. The fenders are cheap, a real 99 bumper is not.
But if it is the first time in 10th years I would put the stock one back on, show the court and get the ticket dismissed. Then go back to the 99 spec.

Go to pep boys, they should sell self adhesive amber reflective tape. Stick a piece on each side, get it signed off on and then take it back off. I had to do this for the rear of my car earlier this year.
The amber lights on the side of the car arnt turn signals anyways. So the reflective tape should do the trick to make you "legal."

As far as putting side markers on the bumper like the older spec bumpers, I think that would look pretty bad. If you are that upset about disturbing the lines, there are other places you can stick side markers I suppose.

And Imo looks better.
But aside from that, fenders aren't that much cheaper than a bumper. I paid 595 for my 99 bumper with plate holder. Good fenders are like 150-200 each?
But I agree with stick on autozone side markers. Stick them on, get dismissed, then take off.

Well installation is alot easier on the bumper rather than the fender.

If the objective is just to get out of the ticket, I agree. Stick on markers are the way to go.

What side of town is pluckers in? They can be dicks in places like Leon Valley and Stone Oak. I would just pay the ticket and move on. Im surprised, cops here are pretty lenient. I passed a county sheriff the other day open wastegate and shot a flame and he didn't pull me over.
