'95 T-78 RX-7 vx. '96 Venom 500 Viper GTS
What do you think the outcome would be between these two cars?
The RX-7 puts down 440 rwhp @ 17 psi. The Viper has ran a best of 7.2x @ 93 mph in the 1/8 mile. I don't have a time on the RX-7. We will be going from a 20-40 mph roll. The 7 will be on BFG drag radials and the Viper will be on road race slicks. The Viper has intake, headers, exhaust and gear (3.55).
Who will win?

Just a heads up, I copied this from the kills section rules thread :
- All threads that ask about an outcome of a race such as "FD vs. Supra" that actually didn't happen are to be placed in that generations specific section if it involves an RX-7, all other "vs." threads that don't involve an RX-7 (and ask about the outcome of a race) should be in the General Automotive section. The kills section is just for kill stories, not for performance questions.
Also, I think that you will probably pull on the Viper. You're pobably making slightly more HP, and are lighter, but he has the major torque advantage and the gears.

Damn, I clicked on this thread thinking I was going to be reading about a race between these two cars! I was all like, "Wow, this has GOT to be a good read".
And it just turns out to be a hypothetical "what if"?
THANKS A LOT!!!

If you don't he'll jump on you quicker than you would ever believe.
I'd recommend starting from 40 mph or more... at 20 you guys are just going to be roasting your tires.
Can't wait to see the vid.

On the highway I've brake boosted to 23 psi... it's fun to smoke your tires at 55 mph! haha

You hold the brake down a bit, and give it some throttle... the extra resistance allows the car to build more boost than you'd normally have at that speed, in that gear.
Its easier said than done tho... takes some practice. A friend of mine had a device on his supra that did it for him, i can't remember how.

To brake boost from a roll... simply push the brake pedal down while applying throttle... use the brake to control your speed and as your engine is pushing against the brake it will build boost. When you guys go simply let off the brake and boom... you're gone!
I'd try it a few times... be sure to give it plenty of throttle 75% or more throttle. Watch your boost gauge climb then release the brake... one helluva feeling!

Should you only be brake boosting with an upgraded ECU or is it still unsafe with an upgraded one? Or will this one boost increase not lean your engine that much.

THE RESULTS
This is a post by the owner of the Viper. I'm quoting it because I don't feel like typing all of it. I was at 17 psi on BFGs. Viper was on road race slicks with the Venom 500 package going from a 40 mph roll:
I guess now we'll have to let him put on some NOS and I'll install my 3 bar map sensor!
It was a cool run and the Viper runs strong. I was proud of 'lil 'ol red! It impressed a lot of people.
First race: When we let out the Viper was two cars ahead and it was obvious things weren't going to change much if it continued. Viper was still in forth gear. I believe Roy thinks the Viper left a little soon. We didn't discuss this part but I think: Roy started to jump early and then had to hesitate to be fair and it cost him. Another words I think the Viper was on time at go and the little bobble at the start cost Roy some time and maybe some boost. Roy thinks the Viper got a little jump on that one. When I say he started to jump early.....it was just one of those things....you gotta be ready, it wasn't a cheat jump or he would have not done the double take, he would have kept going. Hard to tell but that start could have been better. The second run I think Roy got the jump but not because he went early, maybe the Viper slept. Whatever, the rx7 was almost...maybe a whole car ahead very quickly. It stayed like that through second and third, then in forth and the very beginning of fifth the Viper had pulled back up to the back of the rx7's front fender and was still pulling when Roy let out. I really wish it had gone farther because before fifth was done the Viper would have pulled ahead.
In Roy's defense it was a location he was not used to and the protection of the guard rail/wall had past by and there was traffic to the left of the painted area at the end of the wall. I would have stayed in it if I had been in his lane but I know the traffic flow much better at that spot. Roy will give his take but this is pretty close. Both were from a 40 roll.
I hesitantly agreed to one win for the rx7 and one win for the Viper, but I did agree. Boils down to: Both cars are fast and damn close. A totally stock Viper would get spanked by at least three cars. A totally stock rx7 would get spanked by....never mind
We were going to do round three, we exited this road and at the end of the exit ramp there was a stop light and when turning left to cross the overpass to re enter some old man in a 95ish firebird runs the red light and side swipes the Viper in front of the rear tire on the quarter and door. Finally got him to pull over and it looks like there are no dents or dings, only whiteish looking scrapes and residue. Some of it rubbed off with spit and thumb. I believe they will all buff out without going to primer. Close call !!!
