95 PEP, Supra TT, or C5 Poll

** I tried to post previously, so I apologize in advance for similar posts **

I have an opportunity to buy and SWEET '95 PEP with low miles AND the second oil cooler.

I had owned a '93 Base before as the third owner and was plagued with various reliability problems. With that in mind, I'm trying to see what folks think about a ride such as this 7 in comparison to a higher mileage Supra TT or C5 Vette (somewhat similar price tags, no?).

It would probably be my secondary car this time (and have a garage), but I would like to drive it more than the original owner did and enjoy some spirited driving many weekends (I don't forsee a bunch of racing going on....)

Hopefully some of you '94 and '95 owners can chime in with your experiences and suggestions.

Thanks for your help!!!

Just do the reliability mods and you'll be happy with the 95 PEP.

All good choices. If you're not going to mod any of them that much I'd go with the Vette. Otherwise the FD.

Unless your talking about a Z06 I'd go with the 7. The suspension is alot better in the Mazda than in a base model C5. And, as everyone here knows it's handling that makes road cars fun! That and the turbo aspect of the RX-7 means you'll get alot more out of initial mods than you would with the C5. How many Corvette exhuast can give you 25hp?

A 95 doesn't guarantee any more reliability. I have replaced a lot of things on my car.....

If you just want an enjoyable reliable secondary car, I would have to second getting the Vette as well. By adding a set of real tires (not the run-flat BS) and the rear anti-roll bar from the Z51 or Z06 cars, you will have much of the handling of the Z06.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, an FD requires dedication and a slight mental imbalance to own. If you have to think about which car to get, the FD isn't for you. Just my 2 cents...

However, the C5 has what, 345hp NA compared to the 255hp stock of the FD. You really don't "need" exhaust mods.

Yeah that whole mental imbalance comment makes sense. It's kind of like wanting to mess with the high maintanence girl just 'cuz she's hot and will turn heads when you're with her.

The uniqueness of the 7 is one of the reasons why I like it. I had people in the past ask me if my old one was a Ferrari (can you believe that?).

I think that I'm one of the imbalanced ones 'cuz I'm still leaning toward the 7. I can buy it tomorrw, but I'd have to wait just a little longer for the others.

I plan on doing the "reliability mods" first and foremost and then go from there.

I find it interesting that the early responses are mainly either RX7 or Vette but not Supra....

Thanks again.

if someone would have told me that in the 3 years of owning my rx i would have spent enough to buy a new z06 i would have said your crazy. and if i had to do it over again i would have went that route. but theres really nothing like that one or two days a year when the rx works right

I still love my seven. Too many Vette's on the road and Supra's are too Fat(Although SupraFast when modded)

Go with the 7 and be original, like has been said there are vettes everywhere very common and ununique. Not many cars can be 10yrs old and still look like a brand new style car.

Well its hard to find a good Supra but since your looking this one is owned by a guy here in town. All the claims are real, Ive seen it in action.

800HP and extremely great condition.
Otherwise now that I have my FD running strong and done all the reliability mods and boltons, Im very pleased.

I used to work at a Chevy dealership here. It seemed like there were always vettes in with tranny problems and rear end problems. My friend had a C-5 that he beat the **** out of and the engine went at 25,000. Then when that was fixed the tranny went out. (it was a six speed) Vettes are nice, but if you plan on running them hard, they are no more reliable than our beloved FD

Just my .02

P.S. I used to have an 86 vette it was a huge POS. I was always dropping money into it

i would go with the FD if you have enough cash to maintain it properly because FD's cost a lot to repair.

Interesting. My father has own Vettes since the 60's. There was a model back in the 60's which was plagued with problems (I'm no Vette historian so I don't know which model year), however he's had no problems with his cars since then. He now has a Z06 and is loving it.

I think you really need to decide whats best for you. Any of the cars are fun in stock version and they all have strong aftermarket and club support.

I voted for the FD but I would have no problem taking the right C5.

if you plan to leave it stock, i say go with a Supra, everyone has a Corvette. but if you plan on modding them, go for the RX7.

put it this way, i've had an RX7, then a C5, then a Viper...guess what? i have another RX7! once you give them some power, they are the perfect performance car.

screw the vette....there nothing special anymore!!! supras are cool, but alot more money for a good twin turbo 6sp targa...I have been looking at TONS of cars in this price range:supra, s2000, wrx, rx7, older nsx, mustangs, vr4's ect.....the rx7 has my vote!!
But i enjoy working on a cars alot, and I have a 2nd car incase/when my "sports" car has any problems or mods getting put in...

btw if you want something cheaper than a c5 and thats alot faster my car is for sale...pm me or call (630) 853 2907 if your interested. 22k

Well...on my way home from work today, I decided to stop by my friendly Corvette-specialty dealership for a spin.

I found a nice black 97 with 57K miles for $26K. Just so happens that I test drove the 95 PEP today too.

While both have great feels to them, and I know that the C5 is a faster car stock for stock, BUT I'm not sure that I like the torquey feel to it.

I think I'm more into the "big go-cart" feel of the 7. It just seems more fun to drive, so I think that I'm leaning much more heavily that way.
