94 interior plastic vs 93 interior plastic
94 interior plastic vs 93 interior plastic
can someone please illustrate the difference?? i've tried to search but 94 is too short of a term to search for, i've also checked all of the newbie websites...
im looking for a new center console panel (the part that goes around the shifter/ash tray) and i was told to find a 94 one as a replacement....or a carbon fiber one
anyone care to help me figure this out?

He is completely right.
If you have a 93 you need to get a replacement from a 93. The 94 part won't match at all.
I don't think anyone makes a carbon fiber one. Some people put on carbon fiber overlays, that isn't really good looking IMHO.

Yeah the 93s have smooth flimsy plastic while the 94+ console plastic have black plastic that seems to be a bit thicker and have really really tiny tiny bumps on it......
Jeff my friend CFed up his interior and I actually kinda like it........

Its only a cosmetic mismatch. I have a '94 center console on my '93, because my '93 was peeling. It doesn't look bad at all really, although I want to get a '94 A/C surround, then it'll be a lot better cosmetically speaking. The fitment is identical.

The '94+ plastics can't really peel or have anything go wrong, which is why I went for that instead of the earlier style. Definitely more durable, although some people feel the earlier kind looks better (when new of course).
Hmm...maybe a charcoal grey....something not to glaringly obvious, but nice enough to give it that clear-coat finished look.
I haven't thought of a color scheme, but I have seen a few RX-7s painted and although I don't like some of the colors used, I think it would look decent with a quality job.

I was thinking of taking my interior out and having it painted professionally (I have the textured 94 and it's held up really nicely). However, since it's textured I would need to sand it flat/smoothe. Do you think this is the best option or should I try and get 93 palstics that are already smoothe? All I really want to do is the gauge console, center cloumn, and door plastics. Does anyone have any pics of their painted interior that they have sanded and had painted?
I've got a 94 with intact interior plastics. I've been kinda thinking about swapping to 93, since I like the smoove finish (yes, smoove). If anyones interested I'd consider doing a one for one swap on the interior plastics. PM me

Do you guys think you can sand off the textured surface on the '94 parts? I want to make a custom center console but the areas where I bondo and fiberglass will be smooth while the rest of it is bumpy.
Does the spray texture stuff work good?

i might be willing to trade for 94 pieces. i have the 93 pieces which the previous owner painted a silver/grey color...looks good but i like the 94's better. i can post pics if anyone's interested. heath

Did you spray the texture over the bumps that were on there originally?
I was thinking about molding my DIN panel in with my gauges. My gauges are on the top slot and the stereo is on the bottom. Thats why I needed to know how to do it w/o trading for '93 pieces. Plus I want to get rid of the ashtray.

You'll just have to practice getting the 2 textures to match... But it can be done.
I dont really like the texture in the first place but like the rigidity of the '94 pieces. I guess I will try and sand off the texture and then mold it.
What do you guys think about it being painted white, my exterior is white? I just want to break up the all black interior I have. It doesn't look good in my opinion.

do 94+ interior panels hold up nicely over time?
