'94 CW getting painted, deciding what shade of white...

I'm going to keep it white, but not Chaste White.
Metallic or pearl or mica and WHITE, not off-white or cream-colored.
After visiting a bunch of dealerships, here's what I'm liking so far:

Ford White Platinum Metallic Tri-Coat: Kind of hard/cold, but very sharp. Has a definite metallic look without looking too metal-flakey. Very white with titanium tones in shaded areas. Fine(ish) neutral-colored metallic flecks.

Mazda Snowflake White Pearl: Softer and warmer, but without looking off-white. Fine neutral-colored pearl flecks with a nice shimmering glow in sunlight.

Subaru Crystal White Mica: From some angles with the sun behind you, it has a kind of pearlescent glow. From the opposite angle you get a LOT of glints in all colors. Disco lives! Kinda...

Open to ideas here! Would like to keep it an OEM factory color for ease of repair and touch-up.

Hey Dan!

Me and you are in the exact same boat! I have a 94 CW that's getting painted shortly.

I really want to stick with a Mazda OEM color - and really - an FD3S color. So that narrows it down to:

Snow White Pearl Mica - 17W - "RZ White"

OR

Pure White - A3D - "Spirit R White"

I suppose Pearly White N6 is also an option... but I think best to leave that 1 of 1.

I'm leaning heavily towards Snow White Pearl Mica which is a TriCoat... local PPG dealer quoted $260/Q for Deltron.

No one does white like Lexus, my vote is White Nova Glass Flake or even their Starfire White is nice.. neither of them have that champagne color that tricoats/pearl white give off that make them look dirty.

Of those two, I like the snow white pearl mica RZ white. The second one looks too stark white to me. And I do like the oem chaste white

There were only around 600 Chaste White cars imported. They are extremely rare at this point, with probably half of that number left intact. I know you are going to do what makes you happy, but you may want to think about that. Just saying.

I wouldn't worry about going away from chaste white which IMO it isn't the best white out there by a long shot.

Also white is the new black so to speak or the most popular car color so you should have lots of choices. I wouldn't base your decision on what anyone else says but go with what floats your boat. Just go to some dealers and drive around and see which white car looks cool to you.

Personally, I dig basic colors. No flake or special effects needed to accent the ageless body lines of an FD. So if I was going to do white, it would just be the brightest white I could find.

That said, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
So, the only person you have to please is you.

Took me a while to determine that those weren't pictures of the same car at different times! That's some precision car and camera placement Difficult to judge paint colors from pictures on a computer though, particularly when one is in brighter lighting conditions...
I suppose Pearly White N6 is also an option... but I think best to leave that 1 of 1.
If you like that color, paint it that color. However awesome the 1 of 1 is, it isn't sacred!

I'm leaning towards the Ford White Platinum Metallic. It looks pretty badass without being boring and without being "too much". And it isn't a pearl, which can look dull without direct sunlight and can also look different on surfaces that don't line up *perfectly*, even on brand new cars.

Will have to visit the Lexus dealership, I know they've had a TON of different whites over the years...

Have to take into account those two pics are in different lighting!
Chaste White to me is too plain and not *white* enough. Kinda bone-colored or ivory.

Will drop by Cad dealer...

Yeah, I know. But do not care :P It's just not a color I'm into. And the car is pretty far removed from showroom stock anyway!

Looking at paint color charts is better than looking at online pics, but ultimately need to see paint on a 3D automobile in person in sunlight to decide.
Will visit Mercedes dealership next sunny day!
You might want to think about a cream pearl. Cream is an off-white that has black in it. The fact that cream is really just white with a little black keeps it "white" whereas an ivory has yellow in it.
Will ponder this...

Yup, that's the plan! Must see the paint color on an actual car in direct sunlight, and hopefully in the shade as well. I'm pleasantly surprised to find a LOT of interesting shades of white out there. Would be happy with any of the three I've downselected to so far.

But my eyes need some relief from unrelenting plain whiteness!

That am true!

Looking forward to looking at some more dealerships, but looks like snow this weekend...

I don't know,
At the end of the day from a distance, the car is going to look white. Shades of white is such a silly discussion to me.

I'd go with something with pearl in it. To
Me that's really your choice. Pearl/ metallic or opaque. That's about it.

Silly to a non-enthusiast, maybe. Do you only look at your car from a distance? You don't have to be terribly close to appreciate the difference between plain white and the many different types of metallics, pearls, micas, etc.

Ah, but there are sooo many variations out there... Many different pearls, metallics, micas, mica/pearls, and many different shades/hues/tints as well. Subaru Satin White Pearl looks quite different from Mazda Snowflake White Pearl, ferinstance.

If your questioning my car enthusiasm you are a fool. Feel free to question my enthusiasm in white but I think I already made that painfully obvious.

It's white... Meh
There is a reason coloring book pages get colored in.

Why enter a silly discussion?

Out of the two or three different varieties of white finishes for automobiles you are able to distinguish, you prefer "something with pearl in it". Duly noted!

However I'm with Dave on this one. White doesn't do a thing for me other than I want a white FD because I haven't owned one and everyone else wants one LOL

Not all sports cars look great in white, but the FD does.

And hey, at least it's not BLUE
