'93 theft recov. 103k mi. QUESTIONS

It is a theft recovery... dented fender and chips on bumper (overall not "too" bad).... needs seats and some plastics in the interior .....

Hey guys .. I am looking at that car.. I actually have a deposit on it now.. I want to talk to you about it...

It has FMIC, radiator, BOV, hardpipes, elbow, twin intakes, full exhaust w/ greddy PE, Racing hart C2s, Adj. suspension..

**I drove it ... Boosted strong, but usually at about 4500-5k rpms it hit fuel cut..(if I get it .. I will put a MBC on for now to lower the boost) Also, when I hit the brakes i feel a vibration and some slight clunking (sounds and feels like might be shocks and the pads/rotors... when i let off the gas, I heard a see saw type squeak..

**Also, when it started up it didnt really smoke... but after I took it for a ride it was throwing some dark smoke from the exhaust... keep in mind it has full exhaust and it might have a small oil leak (I had it on a lift) It was probably been sitting for a while as well... I would flush the coolant, change oil, plugs,etc....

--I will also do a compression test --

Can someone give me a call at 973-945-6488..

Thanks !

Roger

Whatever ECU it has it must be running rich under boost. I dont know why its stopping you at 4500/5k. If its a PFC check the PIM voltage. There shouldnt be a fuel cut. Somethings ******* up on it. Clunking might be bushings. Vibration while braking would be warped rotors. As for that squeek, is it a delayed one or does it happen the moment you let off the gas?

Thanks for the replies...

Squeak.. is everytime the car "jerks" from tapping it in 1st and letting off....

If it had electronics.. they were probably stolen.. so I will have to check out the ECU wires,etc.... I also think one of the vacuum lines on the turbos could be f'd up ,etc.... Won't it hit fuel cut if it's running more than 10-12psi??

If I can get the car for ~8k you think it's worth it ?

I can get seats for ~280.. interior pieces for ~300 total probably ...

let me know !

thanks

Roger

I don't think that is worth it at all. Not only is the title not clean, but there seem to have a lot of suspension bushings that need to be replaced. Also, it has a boost problem right off the bat. Wait and save a few grand more, then get a FD that you won't regret buying later down the line. Everyone who I speak to who bought a salvage/stolen title FD always regrets doing so.

I personally wouldn't get a salavage title car until it's going to be a track only car. As far as whether it's a good buy or not: you are really betting in a crap shoot. The car may only need a little bit of money and some TLC, or it may need a whole bunch of money to get it into reasonable shape.

If you are willing to take that bet, go for it. But it sounds like you are just looking for the cheapest FD you can find and that's not the best way to go about getting one of these cars.

I would be cautious just as Mahjik said. If you are not certain of the fact that you can lcoate and solve these problems for yourself then that means you're not completely certain of what needs done and will most likely have to pay someone else to do it. The car could easily no longer be a bargain at that point.

You don't have to be an FD expert to buy an FD, but be cautious and selective if you're not one.

THanks for the input guys... I do all my own work so I would just have to buy some parts .. I've always loved the 3rd gens so I wanted to get one to play with ...

The problem is that if I dont want it, I wont get my deposit back... I figured it wouldn't be too bad because it has wheels and some mods. (probably sell the wheels)
