92 FD3S - Juddering / Loss of power.
Hey guys,
Just wanted to put something out there.
I have a 92 FD3s with Apexy Power FC - It recently had the AIK sensor replaced due to a fault with the original. The fault is now cleared according to the commander. When i got the car back it was running perfect, was very pleased.
However only a few days later taking it out on the track. I first noticed that when i tried to accelerate from 60 up to 100mph it starts to judder looking at the commander the only thing i see strange is the injector % it won’t go past 43%.
The other symptom I have is that it sometimes idles between 1100 and 1200 as if the Apexi unit was learning. This doesn’t happen all the time.
Also the Heat light has gone from flickering to always on. Now I am thinking I have injector problems or 2 the ecu is cutting power back due to some fault.
Anyone’s help much appreciated.
Mods;
Apexi running base map
decat and aftermarket backbox
hks sequential BOV
Standard/original for the rest of the car.

With a PFC the "heat" light means either excessive knock, or that your duty cycle has exceeded 96%. Is your cat sensor plugged in? (under the drivers seat). If it isn't..That would also trigger that warning light.
Looking at your spec, there is a chance that you're over boosting. How much boost are you making?
Regarding the "judder", is it like ignition breakup? Or is it fuel cut?

The sensor is not plugged in its just attached to the heat shield to stop it from going on the floor. Also the tip snapped i noticed this last night.
There was no whole for the sensor on the de cat.
Scrolling up on the Apexi the most its hit was 0.8 or 0.6 but no higher. It only just finished 1000 miles it was rebuilt late last year.
Thanks for your time.

I have mine under my seat, rather than under the car, that way its safe. Stick a bung in the floor to cover up the hole
What is the target boost on the PFC?

Could be the reason for the "heat" light, I know that if its un-plugged it turns on. If yours is damaged it may cause this.

As for target boost i couldnt tell you. All i know its running the Apexi base map. Is there a way of checking that.
I have been recommended to change the fuel filter on a side note.

Read off that screen & post it up.
If you're making 0.25kg/cm2 more boost than the set value, you hit fuel cut.
After you've taken it for a drive, hit up of the commander and you get all the max readings (Of the ones you've chosen to display) for the last 10 mins or so. That will tell you how high you're boosting.
Its a possibility, & its cheap, so prob worth doing. You may wish to relocate the filter if you haven't already.

Yep, its under settings -> boost on the commander. The numbers there are the target numbers. There are two profiles, the one you want is the one selected/highlighted.

Also thanks for the note on filter relocation.
