7J 215/40/16 and 8J 225/45/16... Too small? :(

Hi all
Bought a set of Autostrada Modenas on a whim for my 7 when I first got the car as they were going cheap. They're 7J from 8J rear 16s and I was just looking at fitting tyres to them. Is it even worth bothering? I was thinking the sizes in the title and then some spacers if they don't come out enough.

I don't drive overly hard or do any track time, I simply drive the car for enjoyment on the weekend and to go to shows. The problem is that I have 9.5 and 10.5J 17s on there at the moment and they are rubbing and catching at most opportunities (came with car).

Fronts are skinny and tires are short, as compared to stock 225/50/16 on 16x8 all around

That's what I thought. I'm gutted. Literally have no idea whether to bother fitting them or just chrome them up and sell em on. Always wanted Modenas on my 7 when I eventually got one

Have got 18s with something like 235/35 and 255/35 on ATM, fitted by previous owners. Nice wheels, nice stretch but they've had to remove the arch liners and one of tyres has actually rubbed through a bit of the wiring loom running through the drivers side arch (RHD car) plus it rubs like a *****.

Stock FD3S wheels are 16x8 +50
If you can get some 16x8s that are + 40 or so they'll fit great. Just pay attention to brake clearance with 16 inch wheels.

Have you considered a set of 17s? The way those Modenas are designed with the thick lip, I think a bigger wheel wouldn't look too out of place.
