65-75C Intake Temps w/ FMIC???

Ambient Temp: 80C

Before going to the drag strip last night, the car was sitting, running, heatsoaking waiting to leave. I had the hood open with the AC on. My water temps were 88C and my intake temps were 62C (even with the hood open). They stayed warm (60s) until I got onto the interstate at which time within 3-4 minutes they were back down to the low 40s. I stopped at Wendy's to get some food before making it to the track. I had not boosted but maybe once for the 45 minute drive on the interstate. I shut the car off for 20 minutes, and when I came back, water temps were 92C and intake temps were 72C. I got back on the road and drove for another 5-10 minutes at 60 mph to the track, and the intake temps dropped back to the 40s and the water temps back to 88C. I shut the car off for a few minutes to register and get gas then went to the staging lanes and waited about 5 minutes to run. Before my run my intake temps were back up to the high 60s. I came right back around after that run and went back to the staging lanes. They were prepping the track, so I shut the car off and opened the hood thinking that that might help cool my 66C intake temps. I turn the car back on after 20 minutes of sitting and the intake temps are actually HOTTER (72C). Basically, my runs sucked ***. The car felt like it had no power at all.

Cliff Notes: My car with a FMIC is heat soaking like a bitch and running like *** when said condition is present! Are my intake temps supposed to be getting this hot?

Sidenote: I left the boost at 16 psi after leaving the track and still had 100 octane in the car. After my intake temps had fallen back to the upper 30s (cooler out now), I came out of the toll booth and got on it through 1st and 2nd and it felt amazingly fast.

wow it was a 176f..ambient temp or do you mean 80f not 80c

that is strange for a front mount , I didnt think that they heat soaked that much....

Was the intercooler heat soaked (did you feel it) or perhaps the intake air temp sensor got heat soaked? If the sensor is still in the UIM it may be getting heat soaked.

Yes, as far as I know the sensor is in the UIM. Where is it usually relocated to?

And, yes, the ambient temps were 80F not 80C as I said before. Unless the thread title was "So, I went drag racing in the Sahara Desert this afternoon..."

the AIT sensor sepecially under the uim will be slow to react as it does heat soak and it is not designed to give real time temp readings but a general one. stock form it is not considered a primary fueling sensor. like an O2 or coolant temp. people generaly move them to the intercooler cold side tank or tube. they are a little more accurate there

Usually whenever you turn your car off and leave it sitting for a while, the car will heatsoak no matter what IC you have. With a FMIC, the effects on heatsoak are not as bad and it is with a SMIC also a FMIC is quicker to lower the air intake temps with a fmic after driving rather than with a SMIC.

It is not entirely unplausible to have such high Air intake temperatures nevertheless depending on the weather and the humidity in your area. What instrument are you using the guage the temperature? The power fc?
