5th gear grind
I seen a small thing about 5th gear grinding once and awhile, and you guys said it is a spring that could be replaced?... Is that true? How would I go about fixing that? Help me out here please.

Same type of problem
The problem could be that you may shift from 2nd to 5th by mistake, and the synchros have to do a lot more work to align the gears, this makes them wear prematurely. Mazda even did a TSB on this problem. My car had the same problem when I bought the car, and I replace the synchronizer. It is easy to shift from 2nd to 5th, they even sell gates to prevent this type of shift. Is it notchy or does it grind? If it is notchy you may want to run redline MT in your box, this my help you get a few more miles out of your transmition. If it grinds get the syncho replaced.
Good luck,

yeah, sounds like the 5th gear syncro is bad. That happened to my car. Everytime i shift into 5th, it would "clunk" in. You can alleviate some of this if you rev match your engine going into gear. If you get it at the right speed, you won't grind at all
