Take a look in the group buy section for info on my stainless battery trays for the 51R battery in a FD or FC.

I've had a bunch of guys asking about them. This is not a new product, I'm just making another run of them. Due to fabrication cost it is only feasible to do this in a group buy situation, so don't blow your chance to get one. Do a search if you want some testimonials.

I've got one of Jeff's battery trays and it is really nice. Very well made -- much nicer than I expected for the price. It has passed tech for several track events with no trouble and it uses a commonly available battery (51R) for easy initial setup and easy replacement in the future.

I also have this tray. Great workmanship. Everybody thinks it is stock never had a problem with tech at autocross.

It is worth it. The battery is much smaller and lighter frees up space under the hood and has never given me problems with starting.

I recommend this for anybody that wants to keep the battery under the hood but wants to save some weight and space.

It was shipped very quickly, and the email/service was excellent

ditto for me. A great piece to have.

I have the M2 medium intercooler, and the 51R battery is so much less cramped than running the regular sized one.

Before this I added slots in the stock battery tray and ran a 51R battery with tie downs - secure, but would always prompt questions at tech.

This metal tray is even more secure and well worth the price. And tech inspectors no longer flinch at it.

 

When I first got my car in November it came to me with the battery just sitting on the stock tray not tied down since the car has the M2 Med intercooler.

I knew that wasnt going to fly at tech inspection so I searched the forum and came across Jeff's tray. Contacting him and got his last remaining one from the last run and had it in the car the following week.

Battery is secure and urking to get out to the track come spring!!!

 

It opens up some space behind the radiator, too, which should be good for cooling.

I did add a little heat insulation material under my battery to hopefully keep it alive longer. Using the metal tray does seem like it would have the downside of running the battery hotter, but I still have the same battery after a year or two with no problems so far. I do think a little heat insulation is a good idea to head off such problems. I used a little aluminized fiberglass mat that I had around, but I am sure a lot of materials would work fine.

Max, yes the heat insulation is a good idea. Anything will do really, even a thin piece of wood.

Here is a lazy question.
Do yo guys have the part number for 51R battery. I figure batteryplus is gonna ask me what car it is for and I am just gonna tell him 51R...Any more info. will be greatly appreciated.

51R is a standard battery size. I can't remember the models of cars that use it, but 51R should be enough to locate one. I just went to Pep Boys and pulled one off the shelf.

51R is the standard battery for the Honda Civic and the Acura Integra.

Those cars aren't exactly popular so you might have to hunt around a little to find one

 

Does anyone know if the 51R works with a Greddy FMIC? If so then I could probably use one of these battery trays as well.

The base tray dimensions are 5.025" x 9.5".

I wonder if this would be too big for my Hawker Genesis. It is 3 1/8 x 7 1/8.

 

Well you can make a little spacer for the bottom that would bias the battery to the front left and prevent the bottom from moving around or make a new one. You shouldn't really use a stock tray with a battery that small.
