3rd Gen Series 8 problem
Hoping someone can shed some light on a problem.. Just purchased an imported Jap Series 8 2000 Rx7 auto and shortly after purchasing and driving for a while, the car started losing power, jerking and struggled to get over 40km/h. The thing is that the next day the engine would run extremely smoothly. So the problem was sporadic over a couple of weeks. The spark plugs were replaced, the leads checked and the system flushed and cleaned and all was well, for a week. Then starting the car on a hill the problem returned - ie no power, no acceleration and the car cough and spluttered. My mechanic took it for a few days and eventually the car died, as there is no compression in the back rotor! A scan tool revealed error code 45, but my rotary specialist believes this not to be the problem and is adamant that the back rotor is dead. I suppose my question is can a rotor jam and do any of the solenoids control the rotors themselves. I have no idea, even after owning a series II rx7 for the last 14 years... Any help would be appreciated.

where are you, and who is your tuner?
one thing you should definitely do is check out the FD owners section @ ausrotary (in the members section) - if you don't know about it already - it's the ultimate resource for localised info.

I am in Tasmania (Australia). Car was purchased in Sydney (Australia) and the mechanic I use is a guy who worked on rotaries for years with Mazda and the went out into his own business. By the way the car is completely stock standard too.
