Ive been working for a long time now, i caddied for a bunch of golf tournaments and i work for an entertainment company and work almost every weekend. I havent spent near $20k yet, maybe $15k total, but things are expensive and every penny i earn basically goes towards the car. Im happy because i caught a pretty nice deal on the car. Hope that explains some things for ya.
Peace,

"Damn some kids gotta be spoiled. An FD is not easy to own. I'm 21 work full time and have some what of a hard time keeping up with all I want to do. Unless you've been working for 8 years on your grandpa's pig farm saving every penny not spending a dime, theres no way some of these kids can afford these cars. I'm not bashing, if you've done it ALL on your own I give you lots of credit. But all I'm saying is it must be nice to have a wealthy mommy and daddy to rely on.
"
DAMMIT i know exactly what you are talking about.. Everyone in my neighborhood.. (well most of them have riiiiiiiiiich parents.. and drive around in their BMW 330ci's..) dammit.. its so damn hard to save up!!!! rrrg i wish i had a rich grandparent or something... hopefully i sell my 88'rx7 vert during august before i go to college in the fall and save up enough to get an FD by next summer... rrrrrg.

this poll shows the age distribution of FD owners....
..
who read the forum....
..
who participate in silly polls..
It would be interesting to see how accurate this is, but there isn;'t any way to know. :\

I am 21. I own a FD. It is my 5th Mazda and 4th RX7. My first car was an 85 GS (streetported and totaled). My second car was a 90 GXL (streetported and sold-too slow). My third car was an 88 Turbo II (this one I still have - Haltech, big turbo). My fourth car was a 01 Miata - I have an exuse ---> My T2 could not get me to college reliably so to keep me from dropping out my mom bought me the MX5. She said I could pick any new car under $20 grand with a warranty. This was the closest I could get to an RX7, but I planned a wicked plot way before I got my hands on the car. I would get my own place, and when my ole girl doesn't know what I'm driving sell it and buy an FD. This is exactly what I did, except instead of selling the MIata I took advantage of Mazda's buyback program due to misadvertised horsepower. This way I got way more $ than I could have ever got for a car with 15,000 miles of my abuse.
I now own a 94 Touring as well as my Turbo II. I still have my own place but dropped out of college and have no girlfriend.
I'd like to answer this question:
""Interesting that most 3rd Gen owners are between 20 and 25. How the heck do you guys afford the car??
I'm 35... ""
--- by sacrificing life's other ( irrelevant ) luxuries

Well I am 25 now and got my FD when I was 21, I traded in my 1993 Accord EX-R (my 2nd car from my parents as some guy ran a stop sign and totalled my first car). I am working now and already paid back 20K to my mom and used up all my life savings on the mods.
I consider myself very fortunate that I can own a FD when I was in university and that my parents let me own one.

i just turned 25, had my fd since june 99. i was smart and started getting my toys before i get married. thats in june, but i've done everything except single. lucky for me my fiance loves my car, she wants one now too. she knows theres no way i'm gonna sell it for a minivan, she wouldn't even dare to ask that of me. of course i would if i had to. it helps that they are a little cheaper to buy now too. i know i couldn't have afforded $500/mo. during high school, plus $150 for ins. i think that mommy and daddy may have helped some of the younger ones, no offence guys. i wish i could have had one in h.s.

I'm 20, I bought my 94 FD umm 7 days ago and I still have to smile every time I see it. Right now it's my daily driver, though I still have my old 90 Talon TSi around for a beater.
