Was the 3rd Gen Mazda Rx7 (1993-1995) made in Canada
Hi,
I am just posting a new thread to clear up a question that i have about the 3rd generartion.
I am wondering if the 3rd Generation that was sold in Canada and The US was manufactured in either Canada or the US.
I need this information for importing to Canda.
Please post your answers please.

I believe they were all manufactured in japan, but I may be wrong.

the 11th digit in the VIN is the assembly plant code, with "0" being the Hiroshima plant.
i don't think you will find an FD with an 11th digit other than a "0"

Off the top of my head I cant recall the chassis number for my JDM build FD but I'm sure it's totally different again. The point being the info doesnt seem to quite line up.

The first letter of the VIN indicates the country of origin. Therefore all RX-7's were manufactured in Japan, most likely in Hiroshima. The only exception to this rule would be cars made in The U.S don't start with a letter, but rather a number.

There were no rx7s made in Canada.
Although there were two different versons, Canada and US.
The difference being for Canada they made them with daytime running lights and a higher mph-crash-test rebar, KPH speedo, small things like that.
Also I believe Canada didn't get as many options like the "tan interiors", and little things like that. R1s and stuff are rare up here.
If you're wonding wether you have to pay import duty tax to inport from the US, you do , because it was made in Japan and thus the free trade "no tax" deal doesnt count.
And yes it is qualified to be imported to Canada, but you have to change the bumper-rebar and day time running lights.

Also, remember that the VIN numbers most of us use ONLY apply to North America. Japan uses different, much shorter VIN numbers. Australians also use a different VIN scheme.

Also observe that the "N" in "VIN" stands for NUMBER so saying "VIN Number" is rather Redundant ;-)

My car originally came from the U.S., not brought over by myself though. The paper work that I have on it shows that when it was brought into Canada the owner had to have the bumper-rebar changed and daytime driving lights added. The speedo and tachometer were not touched. Driving 60 is a blast.
An option that came on the Canadian car and not the U.S. one is the headlight washer nozzles, which is that third switch in the centre consol, which I don't have.

Both the Canadian & USA versions where sold from 1992 - 1995.
Mazda exported the 92-95 version around the world before Ford forced them to pull the pin on exporting the next update of 96-98
