I couldn't find the part number for the JDM actuator (although I'm sure it's been posted before), but I did find a post showing one option for using an aftermarket actuator.

It appears that this method may prevent breaking the door cables by using the door unlocking lever (which I believe the JDM actuator does as well) to actuate the cables.

Understood...although I've had the DEI unit on my car and used extensively for over 2 years w/o any problems whatsoever...

What's the cost? I don't even have a functioning battery in my car at the moment, but the electrical system is 99% done.
LOL. It's about $300.

Part # plz?

I'm sure a lot of people would like to see this as well.
That's a negative. 1) My car isn't local to me, and 2) I'm def. not interested in pulling off the fragile door panels lol.

I installed keyless on my FD.. it wasn't that bad.

Keyless entry/remote start/alarm system on ebay was about $100 shipped.

Noname ebay door lock actuator was about $10 shipped on ebay.

Took about 2 hours to mod it to make it work perfectly.

After that it was amazing.. loved it.

When I bought my FD about 6 years ago it already had a Viper alarm with the actuater already installed. I recently replaced it with a Autopage 2 way OLED 1000 model and love it. It sure is convenient but not a necessity.

Is the actuator connected directly to the cables, or to the door latch itself like the pictures shown here?

And your door panel fits properly? Did you have to modify it to clear the actuator?

I'd be lying to you if I said I knew. My ish was installed while I was having Tweeter do the audio install...so I didn't really see it for myself.

And your door panel fits properly?
Yes it does. Remember, it's a COMPACT actuator.

Did you have to modify it to clear the actuator?
To my knowledge, no.

There's not a hell of a lot of room behind the door panels. Have you ever taken them off yourself?

The last two questions were directed to cloead, who mounted his actuator low along the line of snaps which retain the door panel.

I got it out of a RHD car (forum member in Austrailia) I've looked around some of the used car parts site on the internet in Austrailia but they are real proud of there passenger side door lock actuators, It was around $125 shipped. A little pricey but a hell of allot cheaper to use something designed for our cars and deffinately won't damage any door components. There was a little modifacation made to use it on the car but easy enough to do and simple hand tools did the job.

Wow, all these "elaborate" set ups. The shop that put in my actuator just drilled a small hole in the plastic under the lock, which the actuator rod hooks into, and the actuator itself sits directly above the speaker. Its not a compact actuator or anything, just a regular one, its a tight fit but it fits.

When you connect the actuator to the plastic part of the "lock" like the two previous set ups, there is no cable fatigue.

You can get a decent Viper alarm system with keyless installed for like 350 including the actuator.

Yep. All I remember is, I wasn't interested in ever doing it again lol.

OK, I have a different question. I have the factory alarm and an after market remote controlled immobilser. I currently have to unlock the door with the key to disarm the factory alarm then press the button on the remote to disarm the immobiliser. Bit of a pain. I had seen but now cannot find a thread which described a mod to allow for both to work together. The mod was a wiring trick with the lock so that the remote could be used without the key. It was something to do with a diode to stop the signal from getting sent back when you used the remote. Anyone heard of this?

Hey man! Been following the GB thread at all? (https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=661323) Cuz I've been able to locate the parts we need, so I figured I'd see if you were still game for trying the install and a writeup if possible, since you were the first to volunteer. Lemme know if you're game and if you can have it done in a relatively short time (cuz the guys in the GB are kinda ansy haha).

Thanks!

Hey Jack,

I haven't set a price yet...I just managed to find the correct parts and have ordered only one set. Once they arrive, we're gonna make sure these are all the parts we need, install 'em w/ a writeup to go along, then set price and order as many sets as we need as per the GB. So keep an eye on the GB thread!

Thanks,
~Ramy

I know it's a little late, but NO, I did not have to modify my door panels at all, the actuator fit behind there fine.
