i kno this topic has been beaten to death but the search function is broken.

my car has the following mods

intake
dp
high flo cat
cb
pfc
stock twins

right now my engine is gettin rebuilt so i have the option of going 2mm or 3mm seals and street porting.

eventually i want to go single turbo and boost 15-18psi at the max.

my end result is hopefully have a car with 400 rwhp.

my question is can i get 350-400 rwhp with out porting my motor with a single turbo running 15-18 on a to4s or should i just port it?

next question is i hear that the 2mm can handle upto 20psi should i just go 2mm or go 3mm for that added extra protection?

i know them 3mm seals are a bit heaver then the 2mm but will that effect the overall performance of the engine?

Mine is currently being rebuilt at Rotary Reliability and I'm having a street port and 3mm apex seals. Street port for more power up top, 3mm to take the abuse of xs-to4e under track conditions. The seals are just to give you a little more security in that they won't break as easily if the motor pings.

Lots have said that 3mm seals are not needed, however with the low octane numbers in CA right now for a street/track car on pump gas I'd prefer to have the extra safety margin.

If you do decide to go with 3mm make sure the shop knows what they are doing, if you don't machine them perfectly it can lead to all sorts of problems.

hey, what ever your HP goals may be, if you are modding it, and you get getting an engine build PORT it, you don't need anything to aggressive but you will regret it if you don't, its worth the couple hunded bucks

i would say if you have the money and you plan on running anything more than stock boost i would go with 3mm, but if you are going to keep it well tuned and running under 20 psi, don't worry to much about it...

i don't think the weight added from going to 3mm will affect anything

I was talking to XS about building my next car and we decided to go with 2mm seals. These are stronger than stock and will be able to take the abuse I plan to put them through.

As far as 3mm they are still good though 2mm do seal better at higher RPM. With the larger area to create friction you can actually see skip marks on rotor housings that have used 3mm seals.

As far as cost it will be about the same. The higher strenght 2mm seals cost more than the usual 3mm but with the 3mm seals you have to pay to machien the rotors.

if you are running high rpm abusive boost then get the 3mm.

get the streetport regardless. It will wake your car up!

With 3mm apex seals you can withstand a little detonation unlike the 2mm's, but you can run as much boost as you want on the 2mm's as long as your tuned for it. PFS and Ray Lochead both use stock 2mm seals and run 30psi!!
