3mm Apex seals
I know that the main (only?) advantage of 3mm apex seals is that they are stronger. So how much stronger? (yeah, yeah, i know, 50%...) How many people have popped a 3mm apex seal motor?

No it's not Turbo'd
Plenty,
It just takes more force, to do so, but when you're talking about combustion chambers, 50% more force than to break a 2mm seal is relatively little. It's like asking you to fill a 200 Gal drum of water, then use a sack cart to transport it, but don't spill any !!!
Well if you hit a hole you'll spill a little, it doesn't take 2X the size of the hole to spill 2X as much water.. it takes maybe 5-10% more of a hole to spill a significant portion.... 50% more water..
In other words, once you're detonating, you don't need much more to blow 3mm vs 2mm seals...

From personal experience It's a good route to go. Or perhaps I just got lucky. My motor has taken some considerable abuse and I'm lucky that it's still running. It has seen excess over 10,000 rpm maybe twice, and goes into 9,000 rpm maybe a few times a month with me bouncing off the rev-limiter (My power curve makespower pass 9,000 as shown on my dyno in 3rd gear)
It runs 12psi daily and 14psi maybe 1 once a month or so.
Engine is approximately 20k old.
I have detonated once, totally off of boost (go figure) and the engine survived.
It is extra insurance but don't think you're engine is going to be bulletproof.

make sure if you go with 3mm Apex seals .. get Ceramics. dont mess around with your motor..
from my understanding.. 3mm apex seals can hold up to like 30 psi of boost. after that you will melt something in your motor. ( on a good Race Motor )

whats the best material to use for apex seals. Would ceramic be stronger than say titanium? Ceramic has great heat resistant properties, is this why it is preferred?
Thanks
Thanks
