I am also a Z lover...I as well almost bought a 300zx until I decided to just go for the RX-7, which is my dream car (besides the R34 Skyline ). I was like, if I ever got an rx-7, that would be the s*%#...and I GOT ONE!!! So, I still love the Fairlady... The T-tops are hot, and though some people don't like the styling, I still love it...Little disappointed with the 350z power wise, but all new cars it seems are going down hill in power and style. I wish someone would stop this evil...

I always thought it was cool how you could cram those chevy engines into almost anything :p

The Zs were always great cars IMO, easy to work on and find parts for, quick in a pinch too. . . not so fond of the newer ones tho, the 240 would have to be my favorite

i own both the Z and the FD, they both have ups and downs. i like the way the Z looks better. The FD handles better. The only bad thing about the Z is that to get HP you have to spend lots of money, and the engines are a bitch to work on. Then again our FD engines only had a life span of about 50k miles, so i guess it evens out. The 300 you almost have to replace the turbos with bigger ones to get anything fast which requires an engine pull.

your fd's engine only lasted 50k miles. that sucks... most of our engines go to around 100k.

btw, the fd looks way better than any gen Z.

i've been a nissan fan for years and own two maximas. i had been looking for a sports car for some time. so i started with the z32 twin turbo, then found out the skyline RBs can be put into a 240sx. there is a place in georgia that does it. i was looking for an s14 with high miles to do an RB26 with ATTESSA AWD. of course this would be about $15,000 not including the car but come on just think of the potential.
i changed my mind again and deciding to go with something that is already in one piece, so i sat thinking; the MKIV supras are pricey and dispite being a HUGE fan of the FD3S, i was scared to death of it based on things i've heard concerning engine durability and it's disposition toward certain tunning methods.
it was back to z32 twin turbo shopping. after a couple very nice specimen got away from me i found a '93 base model RX7 with 17x9.5 forgeline RS wheels, yoko advan tires (275/40-17 front and back), jic flt-a2 coilovers, cusco front strut tower bar, m2 down pipe, custom midpipe, greddy sp catback, greddy underdive pulleys, and an apex power fc among other small things.
i was just shy of the asking price so the guy offered to take off the pfc and sell it on ebay, put the factory ecu in and drop the price a bit. i bought it and two days later the engine blew.
i still love RX7s but i often think if i got the Z i would sacifice a little handling but my car would still run.

ahh, screw it. the 7's worth it.

your engine blew because he took the pfc off. with a full exhaust on a stock ecu, your asking for trouble. buy a pfc then put a new engine in it and you will be rockin

the 350 sucks, the style is worse and its slower than the 300. Why go backwards? same with the RX8. The 8 has a much better engine though

How did the 350Z and RX-8 go backwards? They both handle better, have better designed frames, have better structural rigidity, more comfortable ride, better driveability, cheaper to work on, and make almost as much HP naturally aspirated and are barely a few hundreths of a second off in 1/4 mile times. Seems like they really improved the cars from the standpoint that they now attract a much wider range of people.

The 8 went backwards from what before it?

As for the engine, I would still keep the 13B-rew if thats what you are comparing it to.

You gotta remember the RX8 is a sports sedan and not meant as a replacement for the RX7.

I have always like the z's also. The two things that are my main deterents from ever wanting one is 1) Not many are in very good condition anymore and 2) The wieght: 3474 lbs. is a little excessive don't ya think. At least it doesn't have the weight of the VR-4 though.

Personally, I love the Z cars and think the Z ppl are very cool. I own a 93 rx7 base moded. I also own an 88 TII. My third car is a stock 82 280ZX turbo with 170K original miles. Rusty as hell..but interior is pretty good. Talk about sleeper car: 0-60 in 7.2 sec and 1/4 mi in 15.2.

The twin turbo Z's are very nice! In certain colors, I think it rivals the third gen 7 in looks. And the performance isn't too shabby..properly running will hang with the 7 in a lot of cases. Just read older MT and R/T mags. I know it weighs a ton..but considering that weight..it runs VERY well. I would definitely own a twin turbo Z!

BTW: I'm in agreement the Rx8 and 350Z are a step back. Yeah..they're not turbo charged and still pull pretty good numbers..but why not pull at least the exact same numbers as the 7 and 300 models? Move forward! The fact that owns like ourselves are arguing about this should tell the consumer that the car isn't what it is cracked up to be...or we wouldn't argue about it. Can anyone argue the thrid gen 7 is worse than the second gen (as far as looks and performance?) and the TII is worse than a GSL-SE? Same about the Z? 300>280>260>240.

i think that mid 90's sports car are the best ever made. The new cars are too caught up in navigation and technical ****. Wehn the hell are you gonna look at a fukin navigation when you are tryin to race a Z06? Gimme my twin turbos so i can get 100hp with a full exhaust vs 15 on the NA 350 or rx8. Plus dont you all think that the 300z and the rx7 look much more attractive than the new replacements? I still have people say that they cant believe that my z is a 1990. Still looks current.

to partially defend speedking, add a cat-back exhaust, high flow intake and have jim wolf technology remap the ecu and you have an extra 100hp.
a nice 300zx tt can be found for under $15k (believe me, i've looked). spend $2k for the intake-exhaust-ecu, get some nice wheels and tires for another $2k, and coil-overs for approx $1k and try to compare the performance with these $30k contenders. i just don't think the rx8's 187rwhp can hang with that.

oh, and for SNracing, i know that now. i wasn't to sure at the time though. i had a fealing about it but thought it would last until i could get my hands on an m2 ecu. not like i can drive in during a north dakota winter anyway
