It's fun to scare people with, but at cruising speeds, and when I want to be quiet, it's quite annoying....I'll be getting the muffler welded back on this friday.
It had a tanabe muffler....too quiet for me, but I'm going to get that put back on for now, and buy a new one later down the road.

When I first read this thread, I thought it was about running a 3" straight pipe with no mufflers for the whole exhaust system. I think that would be very loud and not sound good.
But there are many posts here about running straight-thru mufflers. Since just about ALL exhaust components for the FD are straight-thru, this isn't a very good question.
My exhaust is straight-thru: downpipe, metallic cat & magnaflow muffler in midpipe, Racing Beat / RS*R dual tip cat back. But I can tell you that is sounds WAY different than a 3" straight pipe with, for instance, an A'PEXi GT cat-back.

Sounding good is all relative, i can offer an experience of mine though, i did a dyno pull with my 3" straight exhaust with a Racing beat dual tip and then with only the midpipe and down pipe attached and the amout of sound was at least 10 times louder, almost painfully loud. The power gain was only 3 rwhp, so IMHO, its not worth it.

Sorry for the resurrection of an ancient post, but hey I used the search function. So I have some notations on the thread then a question...
Straight Exhaust = Nothing, no cat, no tips, no silencer, no muffler.Just straight pipes all the way back to the rear of the car. So with that being said, I would also like to make this assumption. Adding a car length of 3" pipe would sound different that pulling the exhaust off all together. Also correct me if I am wrong but there is nothing that you would damage by running a straight through exhaust, no valves, no lifters ect.... So other than the sound level there is no con. Rotaries don't need back pressure, So performance wise it seems to me this would be the best set up. nos since we aren't talking about v-8's that glorious classic crispy sound would not be archived so unless your at a track it would be sort of useless. Correct? Add in the cost of paying all the noise ordinance violation tickets, and it's really not worth the HP gain.
I refuse to run Cats on any car I own simply because the thought of re-using half burnt hot fuel doesn't appeal to me. So the question I pose is this. Due to the inherent loudness of our cars, Is there a true dual exhaust for our cars? I have an '87 FC Turbo II, No mods other than a full JDM engine and tranny swap. So I don't have all the emissions BS on my car. I have the pleasure of living in a county that isn't tested for emissions By true dual, I mean a 2 to 2 header and straight pipes to the back. I don't want the y pipe. I do want mufflers, any advice? Suggestions.

I don't see what a cat has to do with re-using half burnt fuel... since all it does is force the exhaust to go through a "filter" the creates a catalytic reaction that will filter out harmful emissions from your car. It helps the environment. It doesn't put unburnt fuel back into your engine. Lol.
But, if you want a true dual exhaust for an FC, Racing Beat has one. Expensive, but it is True dual. 1 pipe for each rotor. My buddy has it on his FC and it sounds beautiful (For a rotary with no restriction in the exhaust)

Is the poster serious? A strait through pipe with no mufflers at all with a street port would be unbareable and literaly hurt you ears!
We don't have V-Twin engines so there is no true dual exhaust. The only way to acheive that would be dual single turbos with exhaust from each all the way back. Even the OEM twin turbo merges to one exhaust on the manifold.

I second the true dual RB exhaust on a NA. I run this on my FB (bp 12a, holley 465 kit, long tube uncollected header into duals) and it sounds beautiful. It does go into a single muffler at the back, but it's a very nice sounding exhaust. If you're running a turbo, then the only way to have a true dual exhaust is to do a custom twin setup where one turbo runs off of each rotor (it has been done, not sure what to search for to look at pictures), but you'd need separate downpipes to dual pipes running back to dual mufflers.

hey if you like the sound of crispy exhaust but want to remain discreet, maybe consider one of those electronically controlled mufflers, last time i checked you can adjust some **** to pretty much go from rather quiet to full exhaust, the benefit is that apparently its meant to function as a straight thru exhaust when open (set on loud)... i think apexi makes one and i think theres a "Varex" or something...

i have a feed FP01 downpipe, ebay midpipe and jasma catback, the whole system is 3.5 inch all the way.
its quite loud at idle, and driving is pretty loud too - doesnt sound too bad, but it is quite loud for an idle.
However, WOT and throttle blips when downshifting (heel and toe) make me cream my pants without fail every time.
If its not your DD then i wouldnt worry about the noise.
