3" Straight thru exhaust?
straight thru exhaust? (stainless steel), with no muffler / cat / resonator? will it sound good at all?
currently all my car has is a huge muffler underneath the body (no cat)....it's the tanabe muffler or something the previous owner said, all I know is that the downpipe / midpipe is 3" stainless steel (tanabe downpipe, and a midpipe.)
how loud would it be with the muffler off, and how would it sound? does anyone have a video clip of it? thanks.

Yeah I can set up a sound clip... I am not going to be around the car until Sunday but I will take a clip, I don't know how to host though... I dont know about the quality either... All I have is a digital camera

Mine is straight but with a Racing Beat single tip muffler on the end... and it's plenty loud.
In fact, if it were a little quieter, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Keeping a low profile is worth a few HP

Ive seen a couple for sale in classified section in the past, but those were for "racing only" exhaust and definitely not for the streets. I would imagine it being light as hell w/ the cats, resonators, mufflers and etc.. Good luck.

it would be too loud for a camera to actually capture the sound accurately, but trust me, its raspy, pulsy, and only kinda sounds good at WOT, but hopefully you wont be at WOT all the time in your "texas heat"

I can hear the turbo's over the exhaust still right now as it sits when boosting. =O(

I was configured exactly like Wargasm, with DP MP and RB muffler. Was a bit loud at WOT.
Sounded nice to me, but the police would definitely not like it. I'll be putting a high-flow cat in there next week to keep my noise profile lower, and to be legal. There's a big fine for no cat here.

It really comes down to a matter of preference. I would get real tired of such setup for a daily driver. But, for my toy beasts, I always had as open an exhaust as I could get away with. My present FD has a DP, a practically open pipe performance Met Substrate Cat and an huge straight through Corksport exhaust. I love that wild, angry, snappy tone that reverberates between the hills of my homecountry. Still, it is nothing like the hordes of Harleys that frequent my Gold Country neighborhood with their obnoxious straight pipes.
I remember when I ran dual 3" straight pipes all the way from my front engined V-12 Lamborghini engine. As an owner of any Italian exotic, it is your undeclared duty to rev your engine to the enjoyment of the wider public. The sound from that exhaust had caused orgasmic joy to thousands and permanent anxiety attacks to the rest. I was usually AHEAD of the sound and I loved it. Was music to my ears.
Each to its own....

i picked up my car w/ just a pipe & tip. had the cats, but no exhaust. and the car sounds like a JGTC race car. its CRAZY LOUD. not recommended.. so i can't imagine completely strait. cuz u won't be able to hear your radio or anything at WOT. Plus Rotary exhaust sound is higher pitch than big blocks, so the sound isn't so pleasent

My fd has a straight through exhaust set up with a custom dp, mp, and greddy exhaust. The car is ******* LOUD!!! But I like it -- it all depends on what you're into. It definitely sounds like a lawn mower on some serious steriods at idle. And at wide open throttle the tone is like nothing else, definitely sounds like a race car.

If you want straight pipes buy an ebay midpipe and cut your catback off. And yeah its 2 bolts to unbolt your catback. Dont be so lazy. This is a horrible idea. Thanks.
I have to wait untill this friday to get the muffler re-welded in, the HORROR!!! =O(
yeah, the back portion is crimp bent (I know, not good.) but the DP/mid-pipe is 3" stainless steel tubing (mandrel bent)....
also the boost is out of control now that the muffler is gone, it creeped up to 13psi!! I immediately let off though, so no more boosting untill I get the muffler put back on. =O(

And you're going to drive it like that on the street? If you do, get ready for some exhaust tickets.
If it's for the track, it would be banned on ours (98db limit, and that think will be closer to 110+ at WOT).
