2nd or 3rd?

Hey all, I was wondering if it is better to buy a FD over a FC. Are there any more problems wth FD's then FC's? Or are all the common misconceptions true for both generations? Is it true when you buy an FD for 10 grand you end up putting 20 into the car? I am still not sure which generation to look into but I'd personal love to get a FD, but I need to do as much re-search as posible. So if there are and major problems or secrets about FD's, I would be greatful to hear them.

On a nother note, in finding out how the Rotary engine works on howstuffworks.com I get it for the most part, but what I don't know, is how does the fuel get into the chamber? Does it come in threw the intake?

Yep. It's true.

Depends on your budget. A cheap FD will generally cost you in repairs. Dollar for dollar you can get a better FC.

FDs have a few more problem areas due to the complicated vac system and cooling system and tight packaging.

Generally, yes. Rotaries are not very well understood in general and there are few good rotary specialists. You have to seek them.

No. That is what fuel injectors are for.

i had a FC that i put 146,000 miles on it. I did all the normal maint. Tires, shocks, oil, air filters ect. I had to put two clutches and a new starter in it. Thats it.... Thoses things were bullet proof. Now my FD i bought it for 10000. I have put 6000 in it and have another 4000 left just to go. Then it will be like new but still a used car with 61k on it. LOL Both are great cars. But the fd is a beautiful car that has great performance and handling. It still stops people in their tracks as they gaze and wonder what it is. You cant say that about the FC. To many were built. It was just to common of a car.

dollar for dollar, a pocket rocket will hand them both their asses on a plate! also bikes will pull in much much much more chicks if thats what your going for. as for which one i would choose (i currently own both), there is no question id go with the fd. thats just me though. actually i guess it would depend on what you wanna use it for and how much money you got. since your actually concerned with money (unlike vette/porsche/viper guys and your not even concering one of the mentioned) id go with the fc. you can seriously buy 5-10 fc's for one fd! fc is a bit easier to work on then a fd and insurnace will be much less. you can also do stuff with a fc that i would never even consider doing with a fd and have the confidence which will actually help you get thru stick situations. also, it seems to me from my experiences that fc's actually rotate less/slower then their fd counterparts in slides. again, this might be just the confidence kicking in (i do tend to freeze up a bit in my fd when sliding around becuase im scared to wreck) but then again it might have something to do with the stock suspension of a fc being lighter then a fd's as well as wheel and rim combo, suspension geometry, being lighter weight, ect.

on another note, my fc does seem much lighter then my fd is. so much so that you can actually tell while just driving around town. tossing the steering wheel back and forth seems to make my fd kinda feel like a slug compared to the fc. now im not saying that the FD is slow compared to other cars and that the fc will take a turn faster then a fd will but... i guess what im trying to say is that my fc seems just a bit quicker to respond). it is fairly stripped out but still, removing interior to me should not really reduce weight that dramatically. Infact, i just drove a few new miatas and the FC seems to be quite a bit lighter then those are as well (miatas seem very close to a FD's weight class but with so much less power its pathetic!).

there is a very simple secret to the fd as you were asking; have enough money for whatever might come along there is hardly any problem on this board which about $2k-10k can't fix the very next day (assuming the chassie/frame is still straight and the car did not catch fire).

good luck

P.S. i have found that there are more photo and video how to's on fd's then fc's. just read up on the sticky on the top thread to get links to a few a sights. their great becuase their damn near moron proof.
