I'm guessin' around $30G's (not sure that amount in Japanese yen)? I read once that the 7's are a good deal in Japan. Also, earlier today, I was reading an online article of MotoRex (Skyline importers) being questioned about importing possible Spirit R, RZ, Type R, Bathurst editions of the 7...but after all the importing, fees, USA regulations, etc...the total would come to $60,000. Ouch..

Read here for the article: http://www.rx7uknet.dircon.co.uk/bin...sa_import.html

Ashkon,

It's not worth it bro. The US FD and the JAPANESE FD are the same. You can buy all the accessories to make it exactly like the Spirit R. The motor isn't better or different. The interior is a "bit" different. If you're planning on modding your FD, the Spirit R is a waste of money since you're gonna probably end up modding it with the same parts as the US FD. BTW, why would you want to drive it on the right hand anyway?

I thought the late model JDM RX7s have a reworked oiling system, something you can't bolt on. [obviously not worth the money but it is a serious difference]

You have to buy the spirit r, then import them, register them, emissions and all that crap, then get plates and what not, get used to the right side driver, and so on and so on.

Overall it will take months and money. My reccomendation is if you want the best of the best, buy the 1995 rx7 and just be one of the 500 who own one and gotto town with it, and keep the saved 30k and drop it into modifications.

US and Japan model cars are very differant, especially the later ones. There where numerous changes/improvements in turbo controll, the turbos themselves(spirit R has the 280hp turbos as do other models),engine managment,cooling/airflow,suspension, brakes (some models), They are a whole differant car.

I understand the design differences of both models. But when it comes down to it, it's really nothing. Sure the turbos, oil passages, suspension and what not are different. It still has the same 13brew engine at heart. I believe a common misnomer is that people tend to believe the Spirit R has a newer engine that totally sets it apart from the US FD. My point was if you're planning to keep it stock (who does right?) the Spirit R would be nice. But, like most of us he's probably gonna mod it. Which in most cases, turbos, supsension, cooling, airflow, computer are gonna go in favor of aftermarket. Resulting in the same FD at the end of the modding process.

If you wanted one that badly you could just take a Series 6 ('93-'95) chassis and convert it to the new spec. Every part on the 2002 models can be imported, and although putting a new JDM engine into an older RX-7 isn't technically legal, neither is a downpipe. The main problem is adapting the new ECU to work with the old instrument cluster, since you would still need a LHD instrument cluster, as well as a few other like parts that are only available in RHD. The majority of it will just bolt right in, but I'll second what was already said, the newer models aren't THAT much better, not worth spending another $30k (or more, OEM parts are EXPENSIVE) just to make it exactly like 2002 model.
