280 HP 99 Spec Turbos on eBay?

I was browsing eBay when I came across this auction... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-...QQcmdZViewItem

I sent the guy an email stating these were not 280 HP version. I wonder if he actually knows these are not the 280 HP version and is trying to get over on an unsuspecting individual.

The turbos are exactly the same size, they just spool faster due to the abradable seals.
To get 280Hp they probably just upped the boost or made the intake or exhaust flow better, not hard to get 25HP out of an FD. Sure you can get 385HP flywheel, that's like 330 to the wheels, just up the boost to 17lbs, get an intake, DP, MP, CB and you are there no problem.

Guys,

He's in Japan and likely quoting factory "flywheel" numbers, not rear wheel HP. So, his 280 FWHP is probably legit. Also, 385 FWHP is very legit. Like Jedon states. Equates to 330 RWHP +/- a few ponies.

Nope it's not. I have a brand new set of 280 HP RZ turbos and they are different than the ones listed in his auction. The turbos he has may make the stated HP, but they are not the legitimate 280 HP turbos he's advertising. Equates to "FALSE ADVERTISING" .

I agree with HDP. These are not 99 spec. turbos. False advertising.
99 spec. turbos has the black Abradable Seals, which these don't. And the Blades are not the same as the 99 specs. Looks like a stocker to me.

That's a CLEAN set of low-power turbos, though. There is some misconception in Japan and here - not all '99+ cars came with the high-power turbos, only some models. He may have pulled them off a 99+ car and thought that's what they were.

That's why I would always insist on lots of clear, good pictures of a set of 280hp turbos - it's VERY easy people to honestly make a mistake, as the differences are subtle.

RHD Japan is a good Ebay vendor, I've bought quite a few things from him.

I have too, even bought an PFC that didn't fit the FD, it was for a newer model and he sent the money back as soon as he got it back in his hands.

More than likely Dale's correct, just doesn't know the product well enough.

Now what to do about idiots selling Cosmo twins and claiming they're 3rd Gen turbos? I sent an email to a guy explaining his twins advertised as "3rd Gen RX-7 Turbos" weren't. He replied saying "that's just what I was told". Slime.

Wow, and they reduced the price by $400/$500!!! So I guess true RZ's would fetch a higher amount.
