Good stuff as always Damian! Do you know your schedule this season? I may make the drive to RA or MO one weekend if you are going to be racing.

how do they verify what hp each car makes? how do they secure against changes to a setup/tune on race day. for example, on a turbocharged car, what prevents someone from using a lower boost map during the hp inspection/verification process and then using a higher output tune during a race?

there are rules for all of this, for example, you need to turn in a dyno sheet before the first race, also they can weigh you and dyno you if needed, race leaders are usually sent right to tech after the race for this reason, also, any boost ajusting items must be 'sealed', ...rules like that.

I do not have it all figured out yet, but I am going to try to do the entire NASAMidwest season:
http://nasamidwest.com/season/

RoadAmerica is April 25-26 and I plan to make it if the car is sorted out by then :-)

Ok, more pics of progress:

There are a few small changes I am making along the way, one is to remove the heater core coolant lines and block off the holes on the coolant neck and engine. I will miss not having a heater on those early and late events here in the midwest, but I wanted to eliminate the heater lines (less coolant lines to fail/leak making it more 'race' reliable).

Here is apic of the coolant neck plug:

Normally I have Andy there to help me get the engine on the hoist and in the car, but he was out of town crewing for a GrandAm team our buddy runs (Eric Meyer), so I had to solo it. It got tricky a few times, but I managed :-)

Pic of the engine in:

Pic of engine bay with most the parts back in place:

That was all I had time for this weekend, I am getting slammed at work so I wont have time to work on it again until next weekend, but I am getting close :-)

I like the lack of the heater core LOL.

Do you use any under body spoilers or diffusers? I wonder how much such a thing might help.

Anyways I like your car and good luck.

Well its the actual heater core is not out yet, that will be next when I find time to tear out the dash to get to it :-) LOL

The short answer is yes, the long answer is WAY more involved and complex :-)
I do use a rear diffuser and designed my own splitter that a few other race cars are running and JKL sells a version of it based on my design.

Do a search for 'damain' and splitter or undertray :-)

Yeah, I got to do a lot of testing/tuning at MAM this past weekend and so far the car ran very well in general. Basic mechanical functions were all in check, no leaking of any fluids, transmission was feeling great, engine felt good.

There is a lot to work on still before the race weekend at RA:

- I have some handling issues to work out.
- I have some brake issues to work out
- There is still tuning tweaks to be done

:-)

And you weren't brave enough to go out without rain tires pft ^_^ . Slicks work fine in the rain especially under braking at high speeds
