2 newbie questions

1. I'm thinking of getting a FD3 rx and I heard that if you replace the oil every 2k and apex seals every 80k and treat it nice it would last long, what else should i do to keep it long?

2. what differences exist between the later jspec models and the fd3s we (america) got?

Replacing the oil every 2 to 3K miles is a good idea with any car but the Rx-7 requires more than just this. It requires keeping an eye on things with the proper gauges, doing upgrades properly and a host of other things. As far as replacing the seals I'm not sure where you heard this but even if it does help replacing them it's costly because it involves taking out and taking apart the engine. Once you go this far you can upgrade the seals to longer lasting ones. As far as "every 80K" that is a very crude way to look at it. It depends on when the seals start to wear down thus lowering your compression. You won't lose power in an Rx-7 with low compression but the car will get harder to start.

As far as the Japan version of the Rx-7 do a search.

jspec engine vs. american engine? no difference. The only difference is the catalytic converters(we've got smaller ones )

80,000 k's to replace the apex seals? Never heard that one. Had a friend(Dragon) who probably put that on in a year with 400 horsepower and he never replaced the apex seals(he did however have to rebuild the engine because of the outer water seal was bad.

2000k's to change the oil?...AMEN, but also make sure you get gauges to monitor the car i.e. water temp, boost, exhaust temp, oil pressure, fuel pressure, oil temp...

Good Luck with getting the FD...I just bought mine and REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like her alot
