1997 RZ RX7 rear suspension

Whats the difference between a RX7 RZ rear suspension and say a RX7 R1 rear suspension??? if any?? stiffer spring rate or shocks is all i could think that would be different.

I'm not sure.. but I know 93 R1 and 95 R2 had different suspension (over all not just rear).. My guess is its fairly similar to R1 or R2.

IIRC the 93R1 was too stiff, so they softened it up a hair w/ the R2's. The RZ should be the same as what we had as an R2.

no, no, no.

The r1/r2 cars parallel the JDM R. The RZ is a different kettle of fish.

in 97 the shocks were bilstein. Setup would quite likely be stiffer (the RZ being promoted as a circuit driver special).

So an RZ is more 'track built' than an R2?

absolutely - (the specs vary over the years, but...) bigger brakes, better/more refined suspension, lighter rims (+ better rubber), 4.3 diff, carbon-backed recaros, subtle touches like drivers' kneepad and passenger side alloy footrest, lightest spec car...

R1 had the same spring rates as the other US spec cars but they had stiffer shocks and bigger rear sway bars. The R2 rear sway bar was not as big as the R1 version. Not sure about the 1997 cars.

I think the R1 rear sway bar tended to make the car oversteer more than most desired so the small bar in the R2 was the solution.
