Personally, I would recommend pricing out a purchase and shipping from CA. I'm sure it will be more than your estimate (i.e. by your current estimate, you are looking at around $12k with the purchase and what you think it will take to fix it), but will be a lot less effort and may be worth it in the end. Plus, you'd have something to drive as soon as it landed rather than something that is really an unknown situation. You could get the shell and find out it has more problems than what you could originally see.

I'm in hawaii too, I'd say wait for a ready to go one. Shipping to hawaii is insane and a lot of it will cost more than the parts themselves..

I live on Oahu as well and you really don't see that many FDs around. I think if you really want it you shouldn't let $500 stop you. I mean in the end you are talking about $10,500 vs $10,000.

If you are not ready to walk away and wait 3 days or so just pay the 500 bucks more.
