Question 1993 Electric Fans

Anyone know what the specific temps are that dictate when the fans kick on? I am interested primarily in how they are supposed to operate solely based on engine temps not what other inputs such as a/c operation (but if you want to give input to that too it may benefit others).

The only thing I have been able to determine so far is that the passenger side fan comes on at 230.

some of the specific questions that I am trying to determine:

1. do the fans have 3 different operating speeds?

2. what temps should operate the drivers side fan at low, med and high

3. Does an aftermarket piggy back ECU like the PFS purple give you the ability to change the points where the fans kick on high?

thanks,

BTW-If you have a related question feel free to post as I may have overlooked it and it will probably help others too.

The fans has 3 speeds. Low, med. and high.

The fans will switch on at 226F at med. speed but if you turn the parking lights on, they will switch on at 207F. Why? maybe a design error about the electrical load.

The workshop manual talks a little about the fans.

Service Manual no help

I own a factory service manual and did not fine it to be any help. For instance it is not clear from the manual whether there is an external temp. driven switch or whether the the ECU handles the information from coolant temp sensor and then controls the fans. I am concerned that my drivers side fan is NOT operating as soon as it should.

However if it is just an issue of when they are being told to turn on then an ECU that will allow me to control those points would be very valuable.

Any other input?

the fans work in parallel...so your drivers side should be on and @ the same speed as the passengers side
ill see if i can dig up the temps..

i think 220 was the high speed activtion point
but i forget what the exact#s are
