1993 bose speaker questions

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if anyone here has successfully run their OEM Bose stereo with the rear speaker tube disconnected ? IE- with both front door speakers + center dash speaker only ?
Are there Bose amps in the rear tube powering rear speakers ? I didn't see any in the Bose wiring diagram, but noticed connectors for 2 speakers and possibly 2 power connectors on the 6 pin female rear Bose tube connector beside the fuel pump cover.
My radio comes on + stations scan in AM-FM mode, but I'm worried about possibly blowing the Bose head amplifier, even though it's probably technically a pre-amp powering external amps to 1 ohm speakers. It's a bit outside of my knowledge of conventional stereo setups, so I thought it might be best to not turn up volume beyond 1 momentarily, and ask owners here first.
I hear speakers pop when power is turned on, even with volume set to 0, but no station static reception sounds while I scan. My antenna rises and retracts, but the antenna feed to the unit isn't connected yet.
Thanks for any tips on getting sound. I will try connecting the antenna this weekend if I can find the short rear hatch connector. If anyone has unused rear Bose speakers laying around, I might be interested in buying them,.

Thanks

I have three sets of the "snake". Haha.

I have heard people using those connectors back by the filling tube to hook up speakers in the rear interior Q-panel.

You might want to explore that.

The Bose tube is a pain and likely does not provide better sound than modern speakers. (IMO)

Thanks. I mainly just want to find out if my Bose preamp works, without potentially damaging it due to open circuits.
That might be more of an issue with tube power hi wattage amps, but I'm not sure.
I tried finding 1 or 2 ohm speakers online, but other than subwoofers, didn't find anything.
If the Bose amp does work, I'd install the 2 rear speakers in rear 1/4 speaker panels or in bose privacy cover holes without the tube. As a winter project.

I recently sold a set of rear speaker braces (with old speakers) and the speaker covers for about C$400. So that might be an expensive way to go.

I **** canned all the paper coned Bose stuff including the amps and the driver in the snake.. Put a JL mid driver in the snake with a JL amp in the hatch and some (shallow) 6.5s in the doors with an Alpine headunit to control everything.. It doesn't bump the neighborhood or anything, but it sounds great and still looks mostly stock, You'll need an adapter since the Bose stuff runs at 1ohm, but other than that it's all pretty straightforward.

Probably a good plan.
I'm just trying to determine if the OEM unit still works at this point.

Thanks everyone !
