Factory Bose radio
Ok I'm lost here
93 touring with the factory Bose.
I replaced the stock radio with another OEM Bose one since my old radio was not working at all.
And I only hear sounds from the rear sound wave, I've been reading up and I'm assuming I need to replace the front speakers or all the Bose speakers with used/new Bose speakers with the amps to get it to work.
Which seems like a lot of trouble, so I rather just put a new head unit and speakers inn, is that what I would do?
I would just like some music to cruise with.

If you're sure that your current head unit is working, then the amps (and maybe the speakers too) are all dead, unless there is a short cut in the wiring which you can easily test by a multimeter by opening one of the door speaker compartments and checking for the voltage in there.

If it is the head unit, United Radio is the best in the U.S. They do great work. Made my HU better than new. Never skips, never malfunctions. Also with those units it's best to stop play and eject the cd every time you want to shut the car off. Shutting the engine off with a playing cd is one of the major things that kills them.

United Radio is actually the OEM rebuilder for Mazda, so when the FD was under warranty, that is where we'd send the radios...
Bose might still repair the amp/speakers too.
basically the Bose system, used a head unit with no amplifier in it, and then there are 3 amplifiers, one for each speaker unit. the speakers are special as well. Bose picked an odd impedance for their speakers, so not much is compatible with the system, and you kind of need to have the whole Bose setup, or replace the whole Bose setup

you might find this wiring diagram useful:
https://www.google.com/search?q=bose...g_diagram2.gif
you have four line level outputs from the head unit. you could one at a time connect them to a line level input on a home stereo, and see that you have (ok) sound on all four channels. if so the problem is likely further along in the diagram somewhere. if that radio relay, or wires from it, is acting up you won't get output.
question : does anyone know exactly what kind of connectors those are ("audio unit" specifically) shown in the above diagram? i.e. amp or what brand are they something i could buy from Mouser if I want to do some modifications to an existing bose system? specifically a scenario where keeping the head unit, i think there are harnesses you can buy for changing head units but that is the inverse.

if you replace everything it will definitely work :-)
if you replace everything make sure the speaker wire is sized correctly i.e. you may need to run new speaker wire.
