ON 1992 FD good deal?

hey guys i found a 1992 rx7 sitting in a guys drive way and approached the guy wondering if he wanted to sell lucky for me he was willing to let it go as he had other projects. well it looks decent and i think it is a steal at only 3000 it has a motor which is currently blown and taken apart. the interior is all there ... in boxes seats dash carpet and center console are installed needs all plastics and door panels put in. the spoiler has been taken off has steel sunroof and HKS i believe exhaust was taken off as well is this a good deal? it has 4 or 5 boxes of just spare parts turbos alternator wires etc good deal or recipe for disaster?
* no info on whereabouts of car will be given away

If you are very mechanically inclined it sounds like a great deal... but if you're not, it sounds like a huge expensive headache

Sounds like a lot of work. If you are looking for a project car, that might fit the bill. I think you just need to ask yourself how soon you want to be driving it.

If you don't have someone locally to help you restore the car, its gonna be a while before you figure it out. The pricing sounds good but it is a RHD which is always worth less generally. All depends how mechanically inclined you are and willing to work on it. If your gonna send it to a shop, I can tell you right now its not worth it, you may as well buy a running one and avoid the headaches.

Oh it is RHD? If thats the case I would get away from this car. You can get one that runs at tiger for 5.5k or so. Private sale for 6-7 for a decent one.Not worth the hassles of having a shell with parts.

If it is LHD I would get it as a LHD stock one goes for around 14.

1992's are RHD only so yes its a RHD. Also, I think your expectation of a running RHD is a little unrealistic as well. Tiger doesn't sell them that cheap and Tiger cars generally have something wrong with them.

I got mine at Tiger for $7,000. While it ran fine I have no idea what would have happened had I started beating on it right away. I had it rebuilt, and changed many things. In the end I spent a freaking fortune. I could have easily bought a modified LHD rx7 cheaper than what I spent on my 92 FD. And that's what I ended up doing. I sold the RHD and bought a modified LHD

As some others pointed out. If you can do the work yourself, then you are saving some coin. If you are taking it to a shop then it can and likely will get very expensive.

yeah its rhd but it runs it ran before current owner picked it up a couple monthes ago. assumably it burns oil however he took the exhaust off it and put it on his buddies rx7 and as soon as that exhaust was put on hes friends car it started smoking and stopped with the exhaust off. so me and the current owner think that when the original motor blew the oil coolant seal that the exhaust was coated with oil and created a problem for smoking also the current motor is from tiger and the previous owner said they were very hard to deal with and their cars arent worth the amount they are trying to sell them for very untrustworthy. also it is not all taken apart just minor peices taken off complete list is exhaust door panels ac / radio surround intake intercooler engine plastic air box etc nothing like seats carpet or anything. it has mazdaspeed wheels and a boost controller

I bought a shell and boxes of parts and im kind of regretting it now, and i do all my own work.
such a hassle dealing with missing or damage parts
might be alittle much for a 15 year old to take on
theres a mint running on in london for 6,000 right now on kijiji

Well, you have several people telling you it's not a good idea. You seem to be set on getting it, so go ahead and let us know when you get it running. I'm going to close this thread as I believe it has served it's purpose. We hope to see a new thread with your project getting started and eventually completed.
