2000 miles since oil change, still full?

As some of you may know i bought a 93 fd with 8300 orig miles.I changed the oil at 8500 with syn mobil1 10w30 .I now have 10,300 miles and the oil level is still full. The car got over 27 mpg on the hwy and runs perfect. My last fd ran great also but it would use at least 1/2 qt for the same miles. How is this possible? Should i get the omp looked at?

I have a 93 w/ 94K miles. Original owner. The car has never used much oil. I change it every 2.5-3K miles and almost never have to add oil between changes.

DAMN... Mine would have been through at least a quart of oil by then. I would definately get the oil metering pump checked. If it is good then you may have over filled it with oil originally. If not and the OMP checks out, then you sir are a lucky man.

His new fd probably doesn't have the typical oil leaks as well. I know my oil pan leaks a lot of oil. Im just too lazy to get that fixed

wow impressive..... i was already thinking of changing my oil like a few days ago (planning to change it on 2k miles) and when i started my car parked on a hill to go to work at 5 in the morning the oil light came up, i got scared shitless and thank god i had a 1/2-2/3 quart of 20w-50 in my bin (my friend thought i was crazy for having it in there) and instead of just driving with the light on (i remeber my driver's ed teacher called them the idiot light, if they come on u in trouble) so i poured it in and the light went off... but wow u get 27 mpg O__O

on i side note, i had a bottle of oil and transmission fluid in my rear bin and went to get oil one day and waht do ya know.....both of em leaked out all inside the bins.......what a mess, so be careful. I did have both the caps on tight....also i had a thing of distilled water when i first got it and that thing burst too. It like it builds up alot of pressure in those rear bins, or maybe its just my dorifto driving style ;-)

To expand on what max said, rotary turbo cars can experience a lot of blowby. This involves fuel getting past the seals and into the engine oil. I don't know if this is a sign of an unhealthy motor or not (although I'd love to be schooled on this), but fuel doesn't lubricate the way that oil does, so you should change the oil ASAP.If it smells strongly of fuel, it's safe to say you're experiencing plenty of blowby, and should stick to a shorter oil change interval.

I keep oil, brake fluid, shop towels, and a bottle of water (for the radiator) in my passenger bin. I've left them in at a few autocross events, and never had any problems. My secret is to pack them tight so they won't roll around. I use the roll of shop towels (the blue paper-type ones) to pad everything so it won't move at all, and be sure to keep all the bottles right side up.

I never had to add oil to good running FDs. I think Max hit it on the head, they tend to add fuel and oil is used. I change my oil every 1500-2000 miles.

So true, its the reason the inside of my car kinda smells like coolant. You should keep only unopened bottles of oil/tranny/water in the bins

i'm sure most people would be suprised how much of their oil after 3k isn't actually oil, blow by is natural for any vehicle, but some experience it more than others.

i'd love to know how much fuel is actually in my oil after i change it, i bet it's quite a bit

From turbojeff:

"It isn't leaky injectors. You can't get gas in the oil unless it blows by the circular seals that seal the side of the rotor to the side housing.

I've had my oil tested at Southwest Spectro Chemical for the last 4 oil changes, everytime I've got 10% fuel dilution. I change my oil every 1800-2200 miles with 20W-50 (since it gets thinned it is better to start out with something a little thicker).

My car had about 48K miles when I started the testing and currently has 57K miles. It is a 93 R1 w/ DP, CB, Efini Y-pipe and stock ECU. With a FJO wideband my car runs richer than 10:1 after 2500rpm all the way to redline. Running that rich is probably the cause of my problem.

This is a very common issue for turbo rotaries, not just FDs, my TII did the same thing.

Jeff"

Never have had to add more than 1/2 quart between changes (maximum 3K miles, but usually 2K). Car and engine are at just under 50K miles.
