Maybe something good will come out of it after all. I wouldn't even have my FD if that other car hadn't burned. So maybe this is life trying to steer you in a different direction? Good luck with the claims.

What was your other car? The one that burned?

Wow That is aweful. Some nice cars perished in that fire.

The important thing is that no one was hurt, cars can be replaced...

Terrible news. . . .

I just got the phone call from "JonesMechanical" during my lunch today. All I can say is that I'm completely and utterly blown away by this. Seth Scally is a good friend and customer of mine, and I have been so excited for him seeing how his business has grown so incredibly fast in the year or so that I've known him. I can certainly commiserate with those who lost their cars in this fire, and hope and pray you've got good insurance of your own. Sadly, I don't put too much trust in ANY insurance company, and the more insurance companies that have an enforceable policy on your property, the better your chances of being at least monitarily reimbursed for your property loss.

But what about Seth?

Even if the insurance is good and replaces all of his stuff, can you imagine the absolute HORROR to learn that the business that you've put so much time, money, blood, sweat (and tears?) into has just become a part of your state's pollution problem? Probably very few of you are business owners, so I don't expect you to feel the same level of sympathy for Seth that I do. Still, if you put aside what you think you know about how a business like Pure Sports works, and consider that EVERYTHING inside that business was there because Seth WORKED to put it there, you'll be pretty humbled at what a huge loss this really is. Nevermind the tools, cars, and merchandise that insurance is there to cover. Think about the many hours spent growing that business, developing a clientele base, and earning the reputation that Seth has for being THE MAN to go to for all things Rotary (and otherwise) in Southern California?

Some people have said some pretty awful stuff about Seth in another thread, and they should consider taking back their spiteful comments. Karma, my friends, is a two way street. To wish ill of somebody or revel in their time of crisis is pretty classless, and does nothing but show your own lack of maturity and personal worth. Seth Scally is a very intelligent, hard working, kind and generous guy. I personally will be praying that things will turn out as well as possible for all those affected by this tragedy, and wish you all the best of luck dealing with insurance companies. Let's all learn an imortant lesson about the importance of good insurance coverage. . . . and pray we never have to use it.

Respectfully,

Brian Kennedy

Let me tell you one thing. I would consider my fd about as "done" as they come, but every time I visited seth, there was always at least 3 or 4 other FD's that still dropped my jaw. I can only imagine what was there. Seth had some super rare project cars, an rx3 drag car that had a history, 510's, and many rotaries. When I dropped my car off from Utah, I met a guy with a really rare NA fc that was a factory lightweight. He was competing in SCCA and loved his car. Cool guy, he worked over at Dave Turner Motorsports. Seth was that good, he pulled guys from all over the nation to have work done, without any marketing. All word of mouth. 16 FD's says alot for him. If I build another FD, it will only be by him.

Seth is an amazing guy, and it is a horrible tragedy to have lost all of these great cars, even more so when you combine those two thoughts together. I lost my '94 Suzuki Swift GT SCCA car in that fire as well, I need to get up there and get photos and paperwork together for the insurance shuffle to follow. Thank God that noone was hurt, and that my GTUs wasn't there!!!!

Keep Seth in your thoughts, and hope that we haven't lost him as a great local rotary guru.....'cause now where do we go?

Wow... what an incredible loss to Seth, the owners and the whole rotary community. It is one thing to replace a normal street car but, an entirely different scale to replace the kinds of customized cars that were lost in that fire. The amount of work, sweat, time it took, besides the financial aspects.

I frankly do not think that an older Porshe Turbo could even be a close match for a properly modded and setup FD. The're simply do not have the chassis and their engine/transaxle weight hanging out behind the rear axle, combined with a light front end, makes them more dangerous to bite than a rattle snake.

Again, sorry for your loss, hope you'll have the will and financials to replace it.

A sad day for RX-7 owners

... today I bowed my head and shead a tear.

If there is a SevenStock9 we should take a moment of silence over this loss.

If Seth re-opens his shop we should push business his way to get him going again.

I used to be an insurance adjuster. If he had the right kind of insurance on it, you may have a chance to recover some, not all, of your loss. You wouldn't be able to get back the work that they did on your vehicle. It may be called Garagekeeper's Legal Liability insurance. But you'd better get in there while the going is good, but what may end up happening is that the insurance company will wait until all the customer's cars claims are figured up and then apportion that against the total amount of coverage. Sometimes there is enough, but usually not. Check with him and see.

Also, since the fire has been traced to an electrical fault inside the actual building that Puresport's leased shouldn't the landlord have some insurance also?

But yes, as you said, I wouldn't be surprised if the loss limit is hit so get your insurance claims in. If you have comprehensive auto insurance your auto insurance company should negotiate with the shop and property insurance companies for you.

Wow, Things are really setting in. I have never cried over a car, and I have come close on this. Probobly more to do with seth and his business and friendship. Worth towing my car 750 miles for. If seth recovers I starts up again, I will build again. If not, it will be dificult.
On another note, anyone ever spent time in a 2001 bmw m coupe (Z3 coupe). Those seem fit the bill. Have to keep my mind turning somehow to distract myself. My prayers for seth, and everyone else who lost their cars and parts. Thanks for all the free insurance advise.

Absolutly terrible. Sadly it is very true..even though these cars mean the world to us..they can be replaced..a person like Seth or his workers could not be if they were harmed or even killed in the fire. I hope everyone is alright..Hope everyone stays on there feet. Im sure this was a blow to most. Good luck Guys.

What I find is sad, is here (in this thread) everyone is giving an outpouring of support, but in that other thread, half the people posting (and even an admin/owner type) is bashing him. I think a lot of people need to big dose of reality check. There are a lot of people who've rubbed me the wrong way over the years, many of which I hope I'll meet in a dark alley, but none of which I hope their world burns down. I'll laugh when the Karma Police catch up to the ******** who cheer for Pure Sports loss. I'll be first in line to **** on those ashes when the day comes. . .

JonesMechanical , I've heard that the BMW coupe is pretty tail-happy; I think it's either the weird weight distribution or the suspension design. I haven't driven one myself, though.
