13B Displacement

Ever since I've learned about RX-7s I've heard that the 13B-REW in them is 1.3L. Now I keep hearing that it's actually 1.3L per rotor (or something) putting them up to 2.6L. My questions is this: WTF?

Its a 1.3L in size but takes in as much air as a 2.6 liter.

Ratary diplacement is measured per revolution, similar to a two-cycle piston engine. 4-stroke piston engines are measured per two revolutions.

What this means is a 1.3l rotary is analogous to a 1.3l two-cycle or a 2.6l four-cycle engine.

most compare to 4-stroke piston engines, that are rated based on air displaced in one full cycle, which takes 2 revs.

start with 2L acura, 2L of air pumped in 2 revs (at 100% pumping efficiency)

the rotary displacement is listed for one rev, so a 1.3L pumps 2.6L in 2 revs.

the 2 stroke is also rated for one rev, so old smokey 750 cc kawasaki pumps 1.5L in 2 revs.
