i have another friend who was trying to get 400 wheel hp out of a set of stock twins, he was running 17psi@380hp for a long time, and since the PFC was maxed out we ended up replacing the boost solenoids with some purge solenoids from an OBDII car, because they are 6mm instead of 3.5mm.
this is so he could run MORE than 17psi, although it only would do 18.
if you want to learn the limit of the stock turbo, it made something like 340@14psi and 380@as much as we could get em to run.

I remember coming out of the turn before the finish line and the car made this high pitched grinding/screaming noise, and began blowing plumes of oil smoke out the back, and a loss of power.
I think when the turbo shaft sheared, there was too much play in the shaft for the oil control rings to seal, and it just dumped oil into the exhaust like mad.
I still have the sheared compressor wheel. Its a paperweight now. Looks cool with all its fins mowed flat I think the highest it was running was 18psi when it did this.

Interesting thread
I will definitely stick with the factory 12 PSI recommendation on my twins. However just out of curiosity how would one go about scaling up the boost as mine are modified at be mechanically driven and non-sequential? They are not electronically controlled to my knowledge and my PFC boost settings don't seem to make a difference...

Also if they are not slectronically controlled ( look at the waste gate and see where and what thats connected to ) if its connected to a solenoid right infront of the upper intake . then it may be controlled electronically , If you bypassed all that . it may be runing off the 7 psi waste gate . and you may need to add some kind of a boost controller to get the psi up .

I Adam, sorry for bothering you but I saw your post and as here in Portugal there are just a few FD's and no tuner shops for rotary's, I looking for some help to upgrade my "beauty"... I would like to go single but don't know wich turbo should I get... BW, PT, Garrett, ... saw a post with a BW running 475whp and 15psi of boost at 2900rpm's... that's my goal.
BTW, how much whp should i expect of the stock twins at 15psi, just bought a REDOM ECU tuned to that boost on a auction but I still haven't install it yet... must i increase the boost manually or with a boost controller or the ECU does it itself? Here the VAG engines (2.0L TFSI) are very fast and I don't want to be left behind, after all I'm an RX7 owner!!!
Thanks in advance and apologise for my not so good english.

Nuno Gomes
