120A Main Fuse Blown/Stuck

I accidentally blew my 120A main fuse while removing my alternator. The problem is that I pulled out the plastic fuse housing, but the metal connector part remained attached to the fuse box. I grabbed on to them with some vice grips and tried to pull them out but no luck. Has anyone else had this happen. Any advice. There is an additional open fuse space adjacent to this one which appears to connect the same wires, can I just buy a new 120A fuse and plug it in there? Any advice is appreciated.

no you have bolts that hold them in.
you will need to remove the bolt to get the fuse out.

if you shorted that out i bet you will have other relays that are blown also.

the yellow egi is probley blown also.

i have done the same thing before i wound up spending about 250 for relays and fuses to get it going again.

Thanks, I didn't realize that I needed to remove the bolts. Hopefully nothing else blew. I'll have to see once I replace the main fuse. thanks again.

How did you check the egi relay. I am looking in the fsm but can't find a proceedure

EGI relay and Original charging issue

I think it's actually F-188 for anyone else who is looking. I'm going to try to get my hands on a main fuse tomorrow and see where I stand.

Just to fill interested parties in on how this started. My battery keeps going low if the car sits for a few days and lately it is even a little weak after my ~12 mile drive to work on the highway when I go to go home. If I trickle charge the battery overnight then it will last for a few weeks sitting. It seems like when I drive the car it is not charging the battery properly, so I was removing the alternator to have it tested. I idiotically ignored the "remove neg cable" warning and blew my main fuse. Anyway, I did have my alternator tested at advanced auto parts and they said that it was pumping out current, but that it was putting out current right away instead of when switched on like it should. They said that I could be overcharging my battery which didn't make much sense to me given how my car was behaving. Anyway, I have put everything back in the car and I will replace the fuse and go through some diagnostics in the fsm. Hopefully nothing else is messed up now. If anyone has input on my charging issue please share it. Thanks

You most likely just blew that main fuse - no big deal, save learning that it's bolted in . I had that episode with my old FC. The main power wire from the alternator goes from that fuse to the alternator, that's it - ground it, you pop the fuse, no big deal.

Take your alternator to a shop that specializes in alternators and starters - they can give you a much better diagnosis than the flunkie at the parts store. Not to mention they might be able to fix it for you.

im not an electrical person but here is my shot a an explanation.
you have to open it up find the open circuit and squeeze it to close the loop.
and with a volt meter check to see if you have any ohm readings on that loop.i think its a dual stage relay so there should be two circuits.
so if you dont get a reading than its probley no good.

So, I replaced the fuse and the car starts right up and appears to be running fine. I will still need to work through the charging issue. I'll post back to this thread once I find out exactly what is going on.
