112mph speed limiter jdm cars

friend has confirmed his JDM auto fd won't go faster than 112mph

have read all that is needed is to cut a single wire, (to the ecu?), to remove this problem...

has been suggested to rom tune it but knowing him he would like to explore the cheaper option first

anyone know which wire to cut?

there is such a thing? never heard of that for the Japan member. Are you sure that's not some problem with his car?

Stand alone would fix that.

do some research on turbo timers - some of the newer ones come with a speed cut delimiter option. Mine apparently does (datasystem (r-spec) mit350), but I've yet to test it out.

Yep, mine has this speed cut also. Apparently it was required by law in Japan to limit all cars to 185km/h.

There has been a heated debate about cutting the speed wire to the ECU. Some have tried it and had no problems (not on an FD though) whilst others have had ABS, 4WS, gear changing (auto) and timing issues. On some cars, the speed signal to the ECU is fed through the dash first, and the ECU goes into limp mode when the wire is cut.

I know which one it is, Green red wire at the back of your meter panel in the white connector with 12 connectors.

Cut mine 2 now it goes 175

No problems with anything

This is true. My Fd would peg at 180Kmh. Kinda annoying, since it was just getting going at that speed. My FC did the same thing, but you can remove a screw on the back of the speedo to remove the speed cut. Usually, people have boost up tuned computers like power FCs, Fcon, or just stock chipped ecu's. A few run speed cut defensers, but they cost about $60, and you can find a used ecu for 150-200 or so, so its better to just run a better ecu

thanks for the input skim41 and onefastrx7turbo

here's a photo of the back of an fd speedo pod

http://groups.msn.com/2wheelsgood/rx...to&PhotoID=631

skim41 there are two 12 contact connectors so i guess the one behind the speedo, (at the end), and not the 1 behind the tacho, (in the middle)

onefastrx7turbo was that screw to remove the speed cut on the fc or fd?, all the screws behind the fd speedo appear to be either earth screws or mounting screws

It's in the ECU. You can get a ROM replacement that will bypass it or you can just get an aftermarket ECU. I've cut the speed wire on other cars before and they ran like **** so be warned.
