yeah, but i can turn that around and say that even when you do run rich and have a high octane gas you can still detonate. so what would be your advise to this guy, run even richer? all i'm saying is it's perfectly fine to run rich, just don't expect to make gobs of power, especially on stock twins. it's a tradeoff btwn reliability and power. but my point is running richer than 12:1 gets you about a hairs worth of extra protection, you can still blow pretty easily as your example has proven. imo, the richer and richer you run you get to a point of diminishing returns, where you lose a lot of power and gain very little protection. it's like upgrading to 3mm seals, people still blow their engines all the time with these. and we all know about the never ending 2 vs 3mm debate. our motors can't take detonation period, if we want that extra protection then we should go out and buy supras.
