Yeah i think i hit my 5 years exact already or maybe a little over 5 years.
And i still love the car like i just got it. There were alot of ups and downs, mostly minor issues thank god and even though its frustrating, you just stick with her.
I remember one time my dad told me to just sell the car cause i dont use as much which is true and i told him nah this is my lifetime project, i want to perfect it little by little, it will be with me til the day i die.
Then one day as i was covering the car one afternoon after i got done cruising, i was looking at it going, "nah, i could never sell this"..
lol

glad to hear you've got it going and are happy with it. Mine will be undergoing some rehab this year but hopefully it won't take more than a weekend or 2.
You still on CR? I'll probably try to go to more of their meets this summer.
For such a rare car I'm always dumfounded how damn many of them there are around Columbus.

glad you like the car, ive also got a single turbo RX-7 and ive been very happy with it for the past few years. just remember to drive it responsibly and dont do anything stupid!
in regards to what 1qwik7 said: like yourself i dont drive it as often as my DD (thats what the DD is for, job, school, etc), and my family has failed for the past 2yrs in convincing me to sell it off. besides, who the hell would i sell it to around here? people dont even know rotary engines exist, and my car has been mistaken for a smaller corvette.
one last thing for the OP: i recommend you research Auxiliary Injection, howard coleman made a very eye opening thread that has enlightened alot of the community in solving the rotary engine reliability issue. if you love your car as much as you say you do, you'll go for it.

I didnt NOT sell it because i didnt want to listen to them (lots of double negatives there lol) but because i promised myself i wouldnt sell it ever before i even bought the car. It was a car i wanted for the rest of my life, a collectors car. It took be 14 months to save and to shop and i bought the car outright. It was the first REAL car i bought. I have owned many cars in the past but they were all low dollar cars, cars i used from A to B, then when i got bored, i sold. The FD was the car i know i would keep forever, my lifetime project. Always changing little things around, and still enjoying it when i can.
My family really isnt into rotarys or rx7s either. My father and brother are toyota guys, my dad has 2 toyota trucks and my mother and brother drive toyotas lol. They love the supra. My dad's dream car is a 911 turbo. We had a T2 a while back and it had issues and i guess that left a stain on my dads brain about how all rx7s are. Which is why he was hesistant in helping me find the FD and was trying to convince me to sell the FD past couple of years.

yeah man i gotta agree with what you said, its our car we paid for it we drive how we want and when we want. if i want to be a retard and put a lift kit and monster truck tires on my FD i will, if i want to splice its engine into a sail boat i will (think One Crazy Summer w/ John Cusack). anyway point is we worked hard to get the car of our dreams and we can do what we want with it.
when i was busting my *** to get the FD my family was against me every step of the way including my best friend (he claimed he was being a realist, i told him to shut up and watch the fireworks when i bring it home) who never believed id buy it. then when i get it, not even 2 days later i had my family (and relatives who live several hours away) tryin to get me to sell the car for more than what i paid for (13,500). they said me buyin the FD was a mistake not knowing everything that was to come (including an engine rebuild) i had already foreseen and planned for.
ive tried my best to make them understand what it is im planning and what im doing to it but they dont listen. no matter how old we get the parents will always try to tell you what to do and what is best lol. well too bad for them i say, the FD is the car ive always wanted and worked so hard to acquire. im not about to throw away all the hells i went thru to get this car for a measely econobox that i will not be happy in. ive got a DD already, i dont need a 2nd! also something you'll find amusing:
2yrs ago i show up in the car, my stepdad and mom want to try it out around the block. i reluctantly agree and watch them leave (stepdad stalls it....ACT clutch lol). he turns it on and goes around the block and they come back. stepdad says "this car sucks, it turns off by itself" mom says "omg this thing is a nightmare its too loud!". they go back to the house, i get in the car to turn it on cuz it died when parking. i see the stickshift in 3rd gear. nice.

it'll be 2 years for me in may and i think i've put 5-6k miles on it haha i dont drive it all too much and all of my family and friends tell me im wasting the car away by not driving it all the time. I dont care, i drive it when i wanna have fun and the small waits just make it that much better. Most of my friends are into building their cars for fun (they dont track or autox it) and so they beat the hell out of their cars daily on the streets.....not very smart. Although my car doesnt get driven a whole lot when i do drive it, its mostly autocross or cruising around town. I love my car.

got mine on may 7th, 2007 great day it was. it was very surreal actually, and i remember havin to drive the FD out of houston while it was flooding with only 1 windshield wiper working which was the one on the passenger's side. relative and i took turns drivin it home, it was a pretty sight to see on the road home while drivin the DD, kept thinkin "wow...i actually got it..."

Fast foward a year and a half later a mazda mechanic applied at my dads job (dad worked for lexus) and coincidentally drove the FD to apply lol
My dad quickly noticed it in the parking lot and went searching for the dude. Found out the dude was trying to apply and asked him about the car.
Originally the guy DID NOT want to sell it but since my dads a salesman, he knows how to talk. He asked him, if he were to sell, how much? Guy said 16k with the wheels (racing harts C5's) or 14 with stock wheels. My dad was like ok ill tell my son. Fast foward 3 weeks, the owner and i met at my dads job and we talked, i drove the car a bit and fell in love. A week or 2 later the car was in my driveway
Even to this day my dad will say "if it wasnt for me, you wont have that car" because he wants to drive it. Im VERY **** about my cars. I feel like the car is not the same anytime someone else drives it. Whether im wrong or not, thats how i feel afterwards. I dont think my dad will break the car or beat on it, i would just hate that ONE TIME he drives it, something will go wrong, then i have to blame him lol. So maybe when the weather gets warmer, ill finally let him drive it but i have to ride with him lol. Just to make him happy, its only been 5 years. lol

I see where you're coming from. Originally my dad wanted me to get a eclipse gs-t because at one time i said i wanted one and he started to look for one. He found one for like 9500 and told me about it. Then i changed my mind and said nah the FD is what i want. Then he started to say no they're sophisicated and problematic, you dont want that. I was like if we find a good one, it wont have problems.

how you were goin after the eclipse first and you had your dad tryin to convince you to get it, i had mine saying i should get an RX-8 instead since i didnt want an econobox. he said it is better because its a new car, and that it looks good. i didnt want the RX-8 at all because when he brought this up i already had the FD and no way in hell would i trade it in.
i tried to make him understand that the visceral speed my car has can only be acquired thru the purchase of something very expensive that costs more than $50k like a 'vette Zo6 if i wanted a brand new sports car. i didnt tell him the rotary was on its way out, but i let him know i have a solid foundation to work with IE: single turbo conversion already done. as for what my rotary specialist buddy and i would find inside my engine block that winter "atrocity" pretty much describes it...as well as idiocy.
@powerstripe, i remember reflecting about buying my FD while sitting on my porch one night in june starin at it. i had a smoke, a cold beer, and Alice In Chains going on the stereo from inside the house. at the time i was thinking about how it had taken me maybe a week to fathom that i had bought the car. its really somethin makin a dream into reality, id say the magnitude is pretty goddamn huge. i also find it very funny that we got our cars on the same day, thats pretty cool!
