Thanks to Bryan on this write up. It was one of the easier mods I've ever done on my car and my cluster was pristine from RX7Boutique.com (as is always the case with all my parts from him).

I didn't think it was going to be too hard at all and just reading the first few posts convinced me of that. Having never done it before, it took me 1 hour and 33 minutes from tear down, replacement, button up. I think I could do it again in an hour..most of the time was me being scared to break any tabs and pulling apart harness connections was a pain. If you haven't already, get a new cluster...amazing how it changes your interior. 100% satisfied!!

Anyway here are my pics...

Out with the old...

In with the new...

Hey Bryan, I turned the posts into a PDF, hope you don't mind if I post it in my sig and make it available to anyone who notices. I really just wanted it for the dash removal, but I did the entire thing anyways. Do you know if there's a way to upload it to the board and have it placed in the stickies?

I followed the instruction to a T and it went beautifully smooth. thanks for putting this together!

answering my own question above regarding the 3bar map sensor...i spliced into the stock map sensor connector according to the instructions but i am not getting a boost read out. I have a boost gauge so I am not depending on it but it would be nice to get it working. any ideas???

are there any modifications needed for jdm spec clusters that still have the oil pressure and not the boost gauge?

OK, so 96 thru 98 Jspec clusters installed into a US FD still need to follow the same instructions as in the first post, or are they plug and play since they still have the oil pressure gauge??

Edit: Sorry, just read the first post again and answered my own question!

OK, so still a little unclear. Is the ground wire the only thing required for the 96 to 98 clusters (i.e., no boost gauge version)??

I cant answer your question definatively but IMO you do not need to modify anything to install the RE-amemiya cluster you just bought.

For a while I had a red FEED cluster like the one posted above and there was no modification or additional wiring needed. It just plugged right in and worked.

Thanks John. Pretty sneaky on your assumption that I bought Charlie's Amemiya cluster, but true . Red FEED would have definitely been my first choice, but IMPOSSIBLE to find them for sale. Thanks for the reply! We'll try the plug and play approach when the cluster arrives!

What changes would need to be made if you were doing the opposite. ie fitting a mazdaspeed 300km dash with oil pressure gauge to a JDM 2002 car that came with a boost gauge

So if I have a Canadian fd, is this a direct plug and play? Or would I still have to splice and mod too. Sorry noob question.

TX gauge cluster?

I have a cluster with the boost gauge. But I need to transfer the speedometer/odometer into it. Where are those details written up?

Had a customer who purchased a 99 spec cluster due to tach issues, thought I would post this for future reference and those who experience issues with their tach due to Adaptronics ECU with Direct Fire. Thank you to Brian Gin for this writeup!

Hi Bryan,

Funny you just asked that, i just fixed the Tach... and it had NOTHING to do with the wiring.

First off, let me just say there was nothing wrong with your tachometer OR my tachometer! which makes me really angry. This is why I didn't want to send it back to you to fix, because both tachs behaved in the same way.

I'm a reasonable guy and pretty good at this stuff....!! However, the guy who tuned / built my car was a little careless at times and this was one of them.

Anyways, these are the things I tried:

- Gauge cluster ground, 4 different points, no difference
- Gauge cluster 12v, no difference
- Gauge cluster tach signal to ECU (2B wire), no difference
- Re-wiring the extra stuff added to my car (no difference in gauge cluster, but the car ran better because my Ethanol and Wideband were able to stay fully powered)
- Adding grounds to the car, made no difference until I switched my 4gauge negative terminal from the bottom of the car to the car rear speaker area)

Long story shot (too late), about 12+ hours of troubleshooting and purchasing a $500 tachometer, the issue was the setting in the Adaptronics ECU. This fix literally takes 12 or less seconds.... I could have saved a lot of time if my tuner properly setup my ECU.

The issue is direct fire ignition. I have Sakebomb Garage's IGA Direct Fire ignition kit + Adaptronics ECU. This is a setting under the TRIGGER tab that you have to change from the factory ignition system to Direct Fire. The timing on the coils are different so that is why the needle doesn't properly work.

To fix this:
- Open WARI program for Adaptronics
- Select the "Triggering" tab
- "Choose Engine for Trigger Settings"
- select "Mazda"
- select "13B RX7 (FD Series 6,7,8) Direct Fire Ignition, Sequential Injection)"
- Save that ****!

If you EVER have a future customer that has an Adaptronics ECU with Direct Fire, they need to do this!!!! or their Tach will NOT work!

Installed a 2001 cluster in USDM 93.
I followed the write-up to the "t" (when it still had pictures), but it beeps 25 times repeatedly, the tach is intermittent, and the oil light is on solid after running for a few seconds.
The tach will stop increasing above 2600 rpm. (Sticks at 2600, while engine revs higher).
Does anyone have experience with fixing these issues? Normally i would do the troubleshooting and wire chasing myself, but life got busy.
Thanks in advance!

So purerx7's email bounced back so that was a dead end unless he gets back on here sometime soon and can respond. He hasn't been on here since July.

I also messaged KKMpunkrock2011 about the pdf he says he made. I'll see if he responds.
