$400/a year insurance full coverage

i dont know how many people are interested in this but i thought i would post it any way
i talked to my insurane company that insures my hot rod and asked them about show car coverage for my rx7 and they started a special insurance plan for me its called exotic/special interest (tuner car) insurance they will give me 25K if my car gets totaled which is a helluva lot more then any other company

You car is now like a hot rod or historic so no daily drivers
its only for MODIFIED cars
and you have to have another car with insurance threw a different company(beater)
you need a valid drivers license for at least 5 years

if you meet the above then they will ask you for pictures of your car and a list of ALL modifications done do it then you and the company will work out an agreement on what the car is worth for me it ended up being $25,000 and the YEARLY payment is $400

The company is called
Hagerty collector car & boat insurance
1 800 922 4050

That policy type is for show cars only? How do they define a "show car"? Thanks!

I heard of hagerty. I was gonna go into that very soon actually.

I think you cant drive the car for more than 2500-3000 miles a year. I think that determines a "show" car.

Specialty insurance is more of a boutique product. Hence different people can expect to get different answers and different premium quote$, based on individual relationships and situations. I've always been able to add RX-7's to my existing collector policies; Hagerty, and Grundy, and neither have mileage limits.

The following might help: have other vehicles as daily drivers, insure other collector vehicles with the company, keep your driving record clean, have a secure indoor storage location. Certain vehicles might need documentation of their rarity or what makes them special/collectible. If you get turned down, you could always ask the underwriter what it would take to do business.

^I've got an existing policy through HAGERTY on another car and they told me the same thing last year.
I don't think I'm paying much more than $400 anually now, but I don't have a agreed value. Might be worth asking about again.

There's no way I'm only driving my Fd for 2500-3000 miles a year. I guess I'll just keep paying 120 a month for full coverage on my Fd and liability on my Fc.

There is another company besides Hagerty. I apologize but don't remember the name right now. I spoke to them and they insure any year car. They just don't want you to drive the car every day and, mileage is unlimited. They have commercials running on Speed Channel

Yeah, some people choose to drive and drive their FD which is all understandable, its a car and its meant to be driven but im sure everyone will agree with me when i say a large majority of FD's that are daily driven, more problems occur.

I choose to drive my car every 3-4 days, sometimes once a week during the cold months because i want that. Last year i only put 1800 miles, this year only 70 because im doing something to it.

Not to mention i have a daily driver to rack up the miles on.

The FD is just an old turbo sports car, it should just be driven on nice days, it keeps people and even yourself in suspense.

I've covered ALL of this in *extensive* detail, including all the strings attached, loopholes, requirements, warnings, etc etc here:

1) https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/higher-than-book-value-ins-475120/
2) https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/any-one-insure-through-hagerty-505844/

Hope that helps

I'd love to hear who successfully gets insurance w/ either of these companies, b/c it's not as easy as it seems... (read the links I posted...)

Not if you know how to take care of them. I've put nearly 40k on my Fd over the past 3 yrs daily driving it. Original engine had 65k when i got it, it now has 103k. It's got the original vacuum lines, turbo and still has perfect sequential operation. I've replace the clutch, pillow ball bushings, and diff mounts. Everything else were small mods.

i drive my car every weekend and there is no mileage checks at all they just perfer you not to drive everyday!
on a side note there are shows, car club meetings and shops that i drive to very often in the summer (almost driven everyday)

RAMY ive got the insurance already and it wasent hard to get and if my car ever gets totaled ill get 25K instead of 10 in blue book so i think that its wort it especially when im only paying 400 a year

1wide7, mind if I ask how old you are? Cuz I think that's a factor (I'm a few months shy of 25 at the moment). Also, I'm assuming your driving record is pretty spotless, huh? And you have the car listed as a modified show car, right?

And you're right, they don't check mileage, but they want to feel secure that you're not daily driving it. I told them some shows I go to are far away, and they said as long as you let us know, we're fine with it.
