I am guessing that it is the PIM volt as well since I know you changed it to compensate for your larger secondary injectors. Can't you just go back to the base maps and see if your car runs/idles better? Don't go drive it hard or anything, but I remember you telling me that you had changed a few things through the commander and ****, maybe one of the things you changed fucked it up. Did you notice the shitty behavior the next time you drove your car after you played with the fuel settings on the commander? If so, that is what I would guess is causing these problems. I doubt you blew your motor....it is something tuning related. You never even touched your FPD did you? Also, if you need one, I have my stock secondary rail with the FPD on it and it was working fine for me. Good luck.

I believe you misunderstood what I said...
clarification.... the injector pulses right...? well mine didn't pulse it just kept going!!! I believe there is some sort of pin mechanism that is in there... mine stuck open... then eventually stuck shut... I'm not speaking like a reg. fuel leak where it is seeping out into the engine bay but where it is seeping into the actual combustion chamber!!!

Scott--it's not the tuning. Eric tuned it great. This started a day later, beginning with a rough time starting up, and even shittier running. Thanks for the offer--I may end up needing that. Still got the stock pressure regulator, or did you not upgrade that?

Wonder1and--I understood that. They're newer injectors, so I wouldn't *think* that would be it, but anything's possible. I'm going to check the o-rings, and FPR. I wouldn't know what to look for in terms of the injectors being stuck open.

Where is the stock FPR? The Fuel Pulsation Dampner is what I have on the stock rail. I have an SX FPR that I will sell you if you want. Brand new w/ -6 AN fittings. So it drove great one day and then the next day it did this? How much did you drive it the first day? What is your AFR at idle? and at WOT?

PM'd you...yeah you can call. So which rail has the FPD and which rail has the FPR? I sold my stock primary rail w/ injectors the other day, but I still have my stock secondary rail w/ injectors for sale and it has a good FPD or FPR on it if you need one. I thought they were both FPD's I didn't know that one was an FPR. Learning if fun for the whole family.

the FPD is on the feed side of the primaries and the FPR is on the return side of the secondaries. the FPD does not have any vacuum lines attached, where as the FPR does have one attached to a solenoid.

How about your leading coils? You can check for spark the old fashioned way but sometime when the plugs are under combustion pressure the coil is too weak to fire. Like someone mentioned, you may have more than one problem, but I would bet it's something minor, instead of a blown engine, at least based on your info. Of course, it could be some blown side or apex seals, but I wouldn't worry about that until you rule out the other, little things.

You could also check the intercooler pip that goes to manifold see if there is any oil in there if oil is leaking past the turbos then these foul the plugs as well as lowers the octane of the mixture and can lead to detonation and a lot of popping in exhaust.

Hey ben...
Back to the injectors... I thought yours would be pretty new... mine were leaking slightly when they put them into my car in the first place... I was told that they do that sometimes before working properly... I suggest if you do pull your manifold take them somewhere and see if they are working properly... because your right it is hard to tell on your own... i don't even know how to tell... but my shop did. Check you yellowpages and see if you can call around and find someone that works on injectors... usually every major area has atleast a few.

I've paid my fair share too!

Good luck!

Thanks--I'll do that today. Ray from Malloy mazda is overnighting me some new o-rings. I was going to pull the injectors today anyway. I'll take them somewhere to get tested/ inspected.

You should try the FPR vacuum hose thing before you tear out the injectors. It's an easy check, and very well could be your problem.

All hail rotary god Fritz--Problem Solved. An injector O-ring was fried. I took it to a shop to have the rest inspected, and he said it was like hooking the fuel line directly to the rotor housing. Thanks for everyone's replies. I'm REALLY glad it wasn't the motor or turbos (knock on wood). Thanks again to fritz--the $20's on its way.

Ok I'm trying to understand how that works as the problem as the o ring looks ok but the part above it is broke. Is that the part you are refering to.

Also Ben I still want to meet up Saturday for that under part thing. Maybe you can explane it to me more saturday.

Alex

basically, both jackets (the black part above the lower o-rings) was broken on both injectors--I guess I wasn't gentle enough putting them in. The lower o-ring was split in two on one injector.

How it works: The fuel rail feeds fuel into the side of the injector. The fuel goes into the little windows (filters) on the black jacket piece. The injector spits the fuel into the chamber.

When the lower o-ring was broken, ALL of the fuel pressure from the regulator and lines POURED the gas straight into the chamber, bypassing the restriction normally caused by the o-ring. It was basically pumping 20psi or whatever the stock pressure is straight into the rotor housing.

I replaced the injectors last week, and must have broken the o-ring slightly then. The fuel pressure must have worsened the condition, and finally the remaining restriction caused it to blow completely (as you can see in the first picture), causing it to run uncontrolably rich.

Yes, Fritz was right. The funny thing was, his exact words were, "Ben, that's an easy one..." The guy knows his ****.

Alex--I should have it running tomorrow afternoon. I'll be glad to meet up. Perhaps if the weather's nice, we could all BBQ at my house in crestwood--it's only about 20 minutes from you. I know of a number of people who would show up.
