$1750 '93 rx7 project
Well, I'm a long time DSMer, but I could not pass up this deal:
1993 RX7 Touring - $1750
www.spokanespeed.net/media/rx7
... so now what? ls1? another rotary? It also comes with a PFC, Commander, Datalogit.

I'm not sure why you are asking others what engine to put in it. It's your car, do what you want.
However, before even thinking about getting it drivable, I would start with:
1. Fix the body damage
2. Repaint the car
3. Gut/clean the interior
4. Replace seats
I would begin there. Once those are done, figure out your budget and then see what engine fits your goals and wallet.

There aren't really any dents, and the paint buffs out well. There is a scratch on the driver side that needs work. The seats are gonna get burned and replaced. I will need a bunch of black interior pieces to clean that up. I have a pretty healthy budget for the car...
I have to decide what to do though, because on one hand...
"Yeah, it's a 1.3L" is a cool thing to be able to say... but TORQUE is useful too.
Thanks for the comments guys!

Go here (www.v8rx7forum.com) if you want to do some research into the bastard swaps, of course don't admit to anyone on here you are doing it or they may try to kill you.

I would get it running/driving and leave the body as is. Who cares what it looks like as long as it drives. Then when it's a decent driver, and you have more money THEN make it look pretty (it looks ok as is). Sell the PFC etc and use it's blood money to make it happen.

personally, I'd get it moving on its own first.

If you do the body work first, you will nick something installing the other goodies. Then you will have to cry even before it's driven. As all good FD owners know, the crying is to be saved until AFTER it's driven.

Not true. If you take a look at most "serious" projects, the paint is always done first (take a look for some of turbojeff's restoration projects). Check Jimlab, his paint has been done for years. It's also a good idea to do the paint now as he can also repaint the engine bay.

I wouldn't have bought this car. Hell, if I could do it again, I wouldn't have bought the car that I did. But here I am
Speaking of which, how much do you consider a "healthy budget"? considering black FD interior pieces are worth their weight in gold, the car needs a full repaint which will easily cost a few grand, plus you're going to need a full engine w/ acessories and everything which will be another couple grand, plus tranny, plus rebuild plus engine wiring harness($750 if you go to the good guys, over $1000 if you go anywhere else). I mean you're probably looking at dropping a good $10k+ in parts, not to mention anything I haven't thought of...
Also, why ask us what engine we think you should go with, then bad mouth the rotary?
