Question $1200 factory mazda reman???

i am in need of a new motor for my fd, and i remember a recent post of some other members getting quotes for factory mazda remans at $1200 plus core exchange, directly from their dealer.

i have a factory reman in my car right now, which i paid ~$3200 parts plus core exchange for through my dealer in san francisco (Royal Motors). after blowing this motor and seeing the low prices other members were quoted by their dealers (mostly in the mideast?), i called three local dealerships for another quote for a replacement fd engine, and they all gave me prices around $3000, plus core exchange. and yes, i made sure this was for the part only, not including labor.

i need to know, which dealership did you guys get $1200 quotes from, i am seriously considering contacting one of them and having an engine shipped out here to the bay area. please let me know.

i appreciate any constructive responses posted here. please respond here on the board, or email me at:

rx7speed811@hotmail.com

thanks in advance.

The $1200 is BS, because I called and verified it myself. Call Ray at Malloy mazda (703) 490-8170, he can get you a reman for $1950 + shipping.

How much would it cost to rebuild the engine yourself?

I basically brang my car to Mazda City here in Jax, and at the final moment, ****** at the counter said "Oh, sorry, i thought that was a one." It litterally pissed me the **** off. If i coulda gotten it in writing, i would have been set. Bucrx7, i believe i posted an admend a while back to that thread, and also agreed it was utter bs on the dealers behalf.

The price i was given after i called and said i had the tow truck was ready to bring my FD, was $2200. talk about your letdowns

contact Bryan at www.rotorsportsracing.com, they have the Mazda rebuild kit, although the price isnt listed on the site.

I wouldn't go back to that same place

Did you crank too much boost or their work just sucked?

Anyhow, try this place:

does anybody have any idea of about how much freight shipping would be from malloy mazda (where is it? i am assuming east coast, near mass.?) to northern california, plus return shipping for my core?

also, goracer, i just checked out this site http://www.mazdarx7engines.com/
have you ordered from them, or heard any direct/indirect experience with them? who's site is that? if it is legitimate and the work is good, their prices are pretty good.

I wouldnt use a mazda reman engine, sometimes you get lucky and you get a good one. In the Bay Area the price is around $2500-3000 for a Mazda Reman. But i have a used Japanese shortblock for sale. I emailed you but not sure if you got it. PM me if you are interested, and i'm in San Francisco and you can come inspect the motor. The engine is at my work place.

rx7will: i got your email, but i am just afraid to buy a used motor because unlike any type of rebuild, there is really NO insurance that it is going to run. i cant afford to throw down on a motor if i have to take that chance, unless you hook me up with some type of warranty protection. let me know.

anyone else have any suggestions for a good place to get a reliable replacement motor?

For the person who asked how much it would cost to rebuild your own.

If your housings are good, and the side seals are OK (basically starting with a low mileage motor) and if you get the parts through Mazda-comp a rebuild can be done for less than $1K.

If you need housings tack on $920! Ceramic apex seals are $1500 or more. Side seals are $80ish.

If you tried to do this through your local dealer you'd pay at least 50% more!

but to rebuild it yourself i have heard that you need special tools that would drive that price way past $1k (ie. dowell puller, etc.). is that correct?
